Antisemitic social media posts

Did anyone know what posts a TPMS middle school teacher is alleged to have written? I’m assuming it was not just criticism of Israel, but would like more info.

I have no idea. Message just says a “staff member”

I would also like to know. Agreed that the message made it sound more intense than criticism, and after the other recent incident I would like more details from the school.

I wish they would say what was reported, but I know they never will. Hence, DCUM - anyone heard?

Sometimes anything that criticizes Israel is claimed to be antisemitism. More info would help clear up whether this was actual hate speech or something that caused complaints claiming it is so because it criticized Israel or supported Palestinians.

I am writing to you today, Thursday, November 30, to address a series of antisemitic online posts that appear to have been made by a staff member at our school. After school today, I was made aware of these posts by several members of the Takoma Park community. I was extremely saddened and disappointed by the contents of these posts and strongly condemn the views expressed as they do not align with our school's values of inclusivity, respect, and acceptance. At this time, our primary concern is the well-being of our students, families, and staff, and we understand the potential impact this situation may have on our school community and have begun an investigation into the matter. We commit to ensuring the appropriate measures are taken based on the findings of this investigation.

It is important to know that Board Policy ACA, Nondiscrimination, Equity, and Cultural Proficiency, the MCPS Employee Code of Conduct, and the MCPS Employee Best Practices for Social Media set expectations for interactions.Further, Board Policy ACA, Nondiscrimination, Equity, and Cultural Proficiency states:
● “Discrimination in any form will not be tolerated. It impedes Montgomery County Public Schools’ ability to discharge its responsibilities to all students and staff, and achieve our community’s long-standing efforts to create, foster, and promote equity, inclusion, and acceptance for all.”

It is important to remind our community that a strict process governs our response to this matter, and any actions resulting from an investigation will be considered a personnel matter. Due to employee privacy laws, MCPS and Takoma Park Middle School are unable to provide further details on the personnel matter.

These social media posts have undermined our school’s values of respect and belonging. I understand the deep distress and hurt this incident has caused our community. We strive to be an inclusive school where all students and staff are valued and respected. We will have additional counseling support on site tomorrow available for students and staff.

We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all our students, regardless of their background or beliefs.

The posts are on twitter look for account cleanslatemoco. They criticize Israel and praise bus operators who refused to take Zionists to the Israel rally.

Ok. Thank you! IMO of three is legitimately antisemitic, one is poor form from an employee of a school system (busses), and the other is an opinion I disagree with but is only antisemitic when combined with the first.

What do you all think?

Not anti semitic. Anti Israel’s gov but the posts say nothing about Jewish people themselves.

Not all criticisms of Israel are antisemitic. However, many of anti-Zionist statements include antisemitic stereotypes. The cartoon in particular, which implies that Israelis are targeting babies, is pretty standard blood libel. The other stuff is not particularly problematic, though foolish to post given MCPS’s social media guidelines.

I think she is anti-Israel, but the posts aren’t Semitic. Not nearly the same situation as the teacher at Tilden who was very clearly anti-Semitic.

We live in a world where even denying support for another country labels you a racaist.

"Clean Slate Moco" is one of the group of social media accounts whose purpose is to hate everything in Montgomery County. And yes, the messenger is relevant here.

It’s fact that Israel was transferring Al Shifa and that there were dozens of babies in the ICU there that had to be rescued, many of whom died. This is well documented in the media. That caring is absolutely fair game. Nothing in those posts is antisemitic and there is nothing antisemitic about criticizing Israel.
