| Is nobody worried about the Kilmer Middle School shooting threat today? My child was very rattled by it and said that kids got into a fight and one kid said he would shoot up the school tomorrow. Police said "there is no imminent threat" but this is always the case. What's the probability they went to this kid's house and confiscated any guns - zero. Apparently our red flag laws are useless |
|
Who knows?
I imagine the only people that might be aware of this are people connected to Kilmer MS. How many Kilmer MS parents have been on DCUM over the past few hours? |
I am a Kilmer parent and got the email. It said “threat of gun violence” which is kind of vague. Where did you hear that someone said they were going to “shoot up the school tomorrow”? Sounds like they’re going to have extra security tomorrow as a safety precaution. My kid and his friend were speculating on whether or not the kid would get expelled. |
NP. The kids are all talking, that’s probably where OP heard it. My kid didn’t witness the fight or know those who were involved. At this point they are all spreading rumors on exactly what was said. Some kids are scared, others are not. |
My kid claims to have heard it directly. I challenged them on the content of the statement - I said oh well since he lost the fight, he probably just threatened to shoot the guy he was fighting with. My kid is adamant he issued a blanket threat to shoot up the school. |
| It was a one off statement. Why the hysteria? |
So if someone says "I'm going to rape you," that's a one off statement too, right? How about "I'm going to hijack a plane and fly it into a building." Also one-off statements. |
If true, then the school should know who the child is. Only a matter of time before everyone else does as well. |
Every mass shooter event, it subsequently comes out that there were warming signs and things said that family members or law enforcement ignored. They have to take this seriously, especially in today’s climate. |
*warning; not warming 🙄 |
| Are parents keeping their kids home tomorrow? DC is hearing that some kids are staying home. |
Is the kid who made the threat going to school? |
|
When I was in HS in FCPS, there was a threat of a retaliatory gang shooting one day at school. About 50% of the parents kept their kids home. Those of us who showed up at school found out the teachers were instructed to give us all extra credit activities just for showing up. It was messed up. At least it sounds like you guys got some sort of notification to parents.
I'd keep your kid home tomorrow. Just to be safe. It's one day. If your kid does go to school, to the extent possible have them avoid crowded areas (hallways, the cafeteria, etc.) and mentally plan exit paths for everywhere along their route for the day. |
| I am not sending my child to school. |
| The message says there is a risk assessment being done because of the threat which includes requiring the child to see a mental health provider. Does this mean the child won't be returning at least till this risk assessment is completed? I heard two kidd were suspended as part of the same incident. |
