Surrogacy abroad

Anonymous
Has anyone had personal experience or known someone else to pursue surrogacy abroad? We absolutely can't afford 200K for a US based surrogate, but can afford 50-70K.

Looks like Ukraine is out, Georgia is out
Mexico has some legal issues
Columbia?

Fwiw we are trying a last ditch effort and if not it'll be loss #7 in 3 years. So not for trying. Just cannot carry to term.

Following! And I’m incredibly sorry for your losses. Check out the Infertility sub on Reddit for more advice.

Do you already have embryos or do you need to do IVF+surrogacy? In 2019 just the surrogacy part cost us about $80-90k.

How old are you?

Has your doctor advised that your womb is likely to the factor more than your eggs?

Even in surrogacy, older eggs are less viable.

Wondering why Georgia is out for you? Was there last month and it is a great spot to visit and I don't think Russia is going to launch a full invasion given how poorly things are going for them in Ukraine.

So you want to travel to some poor country and pay an impoverished woman to get pregnant and carry your child? That seems ethical to you?

You can’t expect desperate people to behave ethically. Until the law catches up, this form of misogynistic exploitation will continue.

Yes, doctors are saying there is no hope. I've lost many, euploid pregnancies late term. So it isn't egg quality. My body is killing the babies and all the test are negative so we are out of options.

It's outlawed as of 1/2024 in Georgia

Because it’s so ethical to troll around infertility boards to share your unwanted opinion on the ethics of surrogacy?

You know who was also really against the legality of surrogacy? The Golden State Killer’s wife, Sharon Huddle. She made a living harping about how unethical surrogacy was and insisting that infertile people shouldn’t try to children. (Yes, because breeding with a sadistic rapist is much better.) Meanwhile, he didn’t start murdering his victims until he got together with Sharon. And many of the survivors remember hearing a woman’s voice. Sharon claims she doesn’t know why he went out all the time in the middle of the night. And the very best part, after they split up, not only did the murders stop, but they didn’t get a divorce, not until after he was caught; and this is despite the fact that Sharon was a divorce lawyer.

I’ve always wondered what kind of person would call a miracle like surrogacy unethical. Now, I know.

OP, good luck to you!!!! Have you considered India?

Commercial surrogacy is only allowed for Indian citizens.

It’s essentially the same as men who go overseas for wives and girlfriends. Using your relative wealth compared to poorer countries in order to gain access to female bodies that you can’t have at home.
