Why does the city refuse to crack down on Maryland paper tags?

Anonymous
Almost every crime report I read talks about the getaway car having paper tags. I see fake paper tags all over the city. Why is the city not pulling these cars over? Worst case, you ticket someone for illegally avoiding speed/red light cameras. More likely, you find stolen cars and people up to no good. Seems like low hanging fruit.

It’s not people being dumb and joking around when they say Equity. That was the actual reason the police were instructed to stand down.

The enforcement would be inequitable. The mayor has a task force to prevent that.

I don’t see anything about paper tags at that link.

Why doesn’t Maryland do anything about paper tags? Seems like they aren’t pulling people over either?

What do you expect the city to do? The tags are not tied to any person or address, they are fake, so they can't be ticketed and enforced, because there is no tracing.

there isn't manpower to pull over every person who is using one and...shouldn't it be up to Maryland to do something about it in terms of creating tags that can't be copied or replicated so easily?

If someone with paper tags hits me and I have no way to identify them, then what?

That's why you have insurance.

Having a valid tag is an existing law. You are aware of that?

Is this the answer? They are looking into digital tags. https://mva.maryland.gov/Pages/NewsDetails2.aspx?NR=2019189

MoCo Council is gunning to prevent ALL traffic stops.

You're fcked.

In the same way that if some armed men jump from a car, steal all your possessions and drive away, there is zero way for the police to track them down.

The city does not care. When will you learn this?

Why do you make excuses for lawlessness? If a car doesn't have a valid tag, tow it.

Is it hypothetically possible that more POC would have their cars towed? Then people in DC consider it to be inequitable and therefore illegal for the police to do it. The police also have to worry about their arrest statistics appearing to show the races of suspects don't perfectly match percent of population in US. Doing nothing keeps your job secure.

Why do you think that the DPW ticket writers slowly trawl the streets west of Rick Creek Park for expired inspection stickers or parking too close to other vehicles (their solution: write tickets for both)? Equity! Ticket writers meet their quota, “rich” people west of the park have to suck it up, and Bowsers’s base is fine.
