Let's be honest, Thanksgiving food sucks, isn't worth the cost or time

Spend all day cooking, cleaning etc, rather not waste that time and have a more casual meal with better food.

That’s just your opinion, man.

Totally agree, I did my usual Christmas Eve 7 fishes. Nobody missed turkey!

My family loves the meal and won't let me drop any of the dishes I make every year. We had to drop collard greens because my slow cooker is broken, and you would have thought I ruined the day.

Also my son's birthday is this weekend, and he asked for Thanksgiving dinner again for his birthday dinner.

Truth it’s so much work- usually on the women. We go out to dinner.

Learn to cook

I agree but I'll never skip it. We do it because it's tradition not because it's the best meal ever.

It’s a wonderful meal if you do it right. Ours was absolutely fantastic.

Better yet don't. Then you won't get stuck with it.

It’s not my favorite meal, but it’s tradition and enjoyable enough once a year.

I don’t get the families who cook Thanksgiving food for Christmas.

We attend a huge thanksgiving pot luck and the array of food (and good company of all ages) is amazing. There is the usual roasted and fried Turkey plus game meats with traditional sides and desserts. However many people bring whatever they prefer to eat so there are also vegan dishes, pasta dishes, and many seafoods. Similarly, there are traditional thanksgiving desserts of apple, pumpkin and pecan pies plus whatever desserts people prefer such as fresh cookies, chocolate cakes, fruit etc.

There will always be some people who prefer traditional foods and some who prefer other options - and the ideal is to allow everyone to eat and drink as they prefer while enjoying the spirit of the holiday - to be with family and friends giving thanks for blessings, sharing joys and commiserating about losses and painful stuff.

It's not about the particular dishes. It's about family and/or friends being together. You can have a delicious meal of whatever you want to cook.

I love it. Turkey + stuffing + mashed potatoes + gravy is all I really need, though. No other sides necessary.

We went out to eat at a really nice restaurant where we had the option of traditional thanksgiving or their normal menu and most of our group didn’t order turkey. It cost $95 per person but it was worth it and no cleanup.
