El Salvador Model as a solution to crime

Anonymous
If DC did this, the bleeding heart SJW crowd would have a fit, even if it resulted in a massive reduction in violence.

But I guess we’ll stick to paying $9m a year for “violence interruptors” and letting criminals off with a slap on the wrist and see how well that continues to work.

Imagine how much this city would change if it locked up a mere 100 of the serially criminal—the mentally ill vagrants exposing themselves to passerby, assaulting preschool teachers, and selling drugs in broad daylight. The burden placed on social services agencies would lessen almost overnight. There would be no more tragedies making the national news; no more teachers visiting from Kentucky shot and killed in front of a metro station. But instead, our uniquely American brand of modern liberalism brand allows certain individuals to be free from law enforcement, up until the point where they seriously injure or kill someone (and sometimes even beyond that). What’s happening here is only happening because we allow it, and it won’t change, or come near anything close to the solution in El Salvador, until we decide enough is enough.

El Salvador’s bigger solution is just to allow most of their criminals to flee to the US, knowing there’s very little chance they’ll be stopped at the border, and after crossing it unmolested, they will be El Norte’s problem.

Let’s not pretend they’ve developed some kind of criminal justice miracle down there, ok? For every hardened criminal they lock away, there’s dozens that are allowed to slip away to the north.

Most progressivism isn't liberal. Remember, liberal does not mean "supports leftist insanity de jour." Liberals like me support ensuring that the legal system isn't racist (or any other sort of ist) and them enforcing laws equally. Progressives want retribution for black people because of their white guilt so they change laws and policies so that black people aren't held responsible for their actions.

Charles Allen wants the opposite of what El Salvador is doing.

From the article:

The strategy has helped lower homicides by 92% compared with 2015, giving Bukele the support of nine of every 10 Salvadorans, polls show. The number of Salvadorans illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border has dropped by 44%

So instead of 100 Salvadorans crossing the border it’s only 56 now?

Not really sure why you see that as some giant victory, but I guess you have to make silk purses out of sow’s ears whenever you can with this administration.

Further, I’ve known lots of Salvadorans who came here to *escape* crime at home. So by reducing crime in El Salvador, it’s entirely possible that the 44% figure you cite are people who are no longer fleeing crime (and thus not criminals themselves) and staying home, while the remaining 56% figure is still composed of criminals, only now more concentrated.

The subtext of statistics can change rapidly if you examine the numbers.

The world sends its violent criminals and insane people right over Biden’s Border.

They would be stupid not to.

Only Trump cares about a civilized country.

Curious: who are the “trolls” you perceive in this thread? Which posts?

I know this post is sarcasm, but it’s a sad commentary when it pretty much rings true.

Exactly, I was just coming in here to say that many of El Salvador’s criminals have illegally migrated to the USA. Sad, because all the good people who have migrated from El Salvador, legally or illegally, have gotten a bad rap and reputation because of the criminals.

Is this not similar to inner city youth?

No offense, but entire, fairly large sectors of the US economy would pretty much cease to function if we didn't have immigrants coming to the US (of which probably 99%+ are non-violent).

Funny how the same people supposedly decrying the southern border are hiring contractors, landscapers, housecleaners, purchasing their food that resulted from immigrants picking the food or packing the meat, etc.

BTW, who do you think is going to take care of you when you age and your kids don't want to do it (take a guess...it is a lot of those same immigrants).
