ACPS - School Board Member Resigns

Odd. From the other linked article about Bailey abruptly leaving a prior meeting, it sounds like he just doesn’t have the focus and drive for it. I guess it’s better to step down that to just sit there keeping a seat warm.

Still, the whole situation seems emblematic of the persistent dysfunction of the ACPS school board and system. Will be interesting to see who steps up to run.

Willie is a great guy. His brother just passed away. I don't blame him for pulling back.

He’s a great guy and I wouldn’t be surprised if he just couldn’t deal with the non sense of the school board anymore.

I’m sorry to hear about his brother passing. Bailey seemed to have taken on a little too much at his age. Hope he enjoys some downtime.

I took that walk out to be his frustration with the school board accomplishing nothing for students while focused on changing the make up and elections for School Board. It would be doubly frustrating since that was the focus of Booze and Baird for so long and is apparently a colossal failure.

I don't think it has anything to do with "focus and drive". That's such an insulting notion.

I mean, this was Bailey’s own quote in the article about him leaving a late-night board meeting.

“I don’t know if I want to continue with this. I don’t know about you guys, but maybe it’s because I’m old. As it gets late and we continue talking about the same stuff… It’s just me, but you all can finish up. I’m done.”

He was one of the rare few fueled by altruism instead of narcissism. Good on him for spotting a failing assignment and cutting bait.

Only problem is, what do we do when the only adult left the room and all that’s remaining are the out-of-touch misfits on the SB and City Council?

Gosh. If only there was something people could do or some way they had control over the "misfits on the SB and City Council"?

Not voting for them, and others just like them, might be a good place to start.

I don’t disagree, though worry that today’s toxic state of politics is a turn off for respectable people who might have otherwise thrown their hat in the ring.

What’s left on the ticket are the dregs who are more obsessed with their pet projects than ensuring the foundational basics of running a city are met.

If my math is correct, the only thing the public *really* gets to choose is the least worst candidate and how fast we get to go on this downhill climb.

This guy left in the middle of a meeting just got up and left. Good riddance.

Context is crucial. When Willie walked out, the school board had already completed their evening meeting and it was 10pm. When they kicked off a second, separate meeting, he left.

Not exactly slacking on the job. The school board should’ve scheduled the gab fest for another time and day…especially since City Council never approves their initiatives anyhow.

I don’t know, he resigned without giving a reason. If he were really trying to make a statement, then he should have come out and said it.

No he didn't. He refused to watch Wilson et al pat themselves on the back.
