Suggestion if you are looking for T(w)een dress that is not Bodycon

Anonymous
I was having a hard time finding a dress for my tall 12 year old that wasn't tight, short and low-cut for her friend's Bat Mitzvah. I just wanted to share that we got this dress and it worked out great:
https://www.lulus.com/products/blissful-love-burgundy-cutout-mini-skater-dress/1572136.html

Some of her friends who were also trying to strike the balance of looking good but not too provocative (or their parents were) came out looking slightly on the babyish side. But this one was a hit. DD looked sophisticated but the dress was not revealing. Shows just a bit of skin in the back, but she was comfortable with it. The site has some other cute options, too.

I hope this helps!

That's really pretty.

Just Google homecoming skater dress and you’ll have lots of choices.

Can you please share some examples of the inspired choices you would put your 12-year-old daughter in? Thank you.

OP here. I did that many times and the vast majority of choices presented were still not quite appropriate for a tween, in my opinion. Just sharing this one in case other people were having the same challenges.

Really? That’s odd. I just did it and these are the first few links:

https://www.lulus.com/products/got-you-glowing-navy-blue-sparkly-lace-up-skater-dress/1555476.html

https://www.macys.com/shop/junior-clothing/junior-homecoming-dresses?id=197151

Yours was great but I’m just pointing out that they may be easier to find if you use the term skater dress. It eliminates all body skimming ones.

Your Macy's link has dresses specifically labeled "bodycon".
OP, love the dress your daughter ended up with!

That is really beautiful but still seems short to me. I guess I'm turning into my mother

Keep in mind those models have super long legs so it looks shorter. I’ve been pleasantly surprised with lulus. They have diverse picks. Macys online can have some decent choices too. The stuff in store is awful. My kid really wanted to do in store shopping with me but I regretted it—the one we ended up with looked cheap and I think we would have done better online.

Thanks for posting! That is a cute option that my 12yo would also like.

Do girls wear sneakers with dresses to bat mitzvahs the same way they wear them to Homecoming?

Doesn’t matter what they are called. They aren’t the sexy, slinky dresses I assume OP was helping others find. I’m simply suggesting if you’re looking for a dress like that, Google homecoming skater dress and you’ll find tons of options.
