If your college friend is pushing her unfortunate daughter into modeling

And wants you to fawn over her modeling photos, how long before the facade drops and you tell her the truth - find a new hobby?

Do yourself a favor and just don't try to be friends with this woman.

Calling her daughter "unfortunate" and you feeling as if you need to set her straight is beyond the pale.

Do not open your big mouth. Do not encourage. Let your friend talk. You are there to listen. Nothing more, nothing less. Do not judge. Just listen. You are an adult. Are you able to do that OP??

Not OP but what word would you prefer? Ugly? I mean if she’s not model material she’s not model material.

How would you want her to treat you in a similar situation, OP?

A lot of successful models actually look pretty homely without the makeup etc.

Then she’ll find out soon enough on her own.

I have a friend like this, posts pictures of her daughters modeling shoots incessantly in FB. She is just a normal looking toddler. And she isn’t smiling in a single shoot that I’ve seen, which is weird to me. But you can’t say anything. What would you even say? And why? For what purpose? It would be unnecessary and solely to be unkind. It wouldn’t accomplish a single thing besides hurt feelings.

There's different kinds of models. Maybe this "unfortunate" looking kid is tall and skeletal and she wants to be a runway model.
Is OP listening to what her friend is saying or just waiting till she can get online and trash her?

Unfortunate because this is her mother- or unfortunate-looking? Either way, I'd just say 'good for you that you are doing the photos yourself because there are so many people willing to take parents money and manipulate them into thinking their kids have a chance at success'.

Unfortunate because her mother is unhappy having shrews for friends.

What does “unfortunate” mean here?

Models are tall and thin. They are not always conventionally beautiful. You’d be surprised what they look like without makeup. A LOT of modeling is just the training, like any job.

Hope this girl gets a bunch of money socked away in a Roth while you snark about her mom.
