| Has PSAT Scores come out? If so, are kids getting it from school or on the College Board website? |
| They are coming out in two batches. Today and Nov 16th. Get them from the College Board website. |
Kid said they got it today at PHS. Rocked a 1450... made my lousy afternoon a little better
|
That’s an awesome score, is your child in 10th or 11th grade? May I ask what they did to prepare? |
Was it through the college board website? |
Is the 16th for the kids who had problems taking the test the first day? |
Kid is in 10th grade. As for prepping, I didn't even know they took it. Yeah... it's ok to judge me for that
|
Kid said that wasn't working but went through something called Big Future. I have no file on that. |
Big future is college board, so makes sense. Maybe one link worked and not the other? Or so many people accessing, that the direct access link crashed? |
I imagine today's batch is for the kids who successfully took the test on the original date. |

A different thread asking a question about test prep (for students who want to improve score before SAT).
Best place to start is Khan Academy. It's linked to College Board. When you miss a question, the app shows you how to do it, and then gives you additional, similar question. This is actually good prep for everyone. Learning math and reading are fundamental skills, and this is a great way to shore up the foundation. Once your kid has done that quite a while, then take some more practice tests and decide from there. The Khan Academy approach will refresh (or teach for the first time) material the kid forgot or didn't have a good handle on. There's no reason to pay for a tutor or class to do that stuff. After you do the follow up test, you can consider a class or tutoring or something (lots of suggestions if you search on this board). A lesser known resource-- schoolhouse.org works with Khan Academy for online peer tutoring. It's usually organized as a 8 or 10 session prep in the month leading up to an SAT offering. Kids who scored well on the SAT do the tutoring (3-10 kids in a zoom room). I think kids usually do a segment of a practice test and then go over hints and tricks for answering correctly/faster. |
| I would highly recommend kids do some Khan Academy prep on grammar and punctuation. Now having two kids who sailed through the rest of the PSAT only to get dinged on the grammar section because they didn't know what a semi-colon was. I don't think MoCo teaches grammar and punctuation - at least not how its tested on these exams. |
omg.. MCPS does a crap job on teaching grammar, and how to use semicolons and commas correctly. I had to teach my kids how to use them correctly. |
No one teaches semicolons anymore; they're passé. |
I see you.
