This is actually good prep for everyone.  Learning math and reading are fundamental skills, and this is a great way to shore up the foundation.

Once your kid has done that quite a while, then take some more practice tests and decide from there.

The Khan Academy approach will refresh (or teach for the first time) material the kid forgot or didn't have a good handle on.  There's no reason to pay for a tutor or class to do that stuff.

After you do the follow up test, you can consider a class or tutoring or something (lots of suggestions if you search on this board).

A lesser known resource-- schoolhouse.org works with Khan Academy for online peer tutoring.  It's usually organized as a 8 or 10 session prep in the month leading up to an SAT offering.  Kids who scored well on the SAT do the tutoring (3-10 kids in a zoom room).  I think kids usually do a segment of a practice test and then go over hints and tricks for answering correctly/faster.[/quote]
