Best team sport for a shy/introverted child

Any thoughts? Soccer isn't the right sport. She has been hit in the face by a ball twice and she's done.

Fencing tons of weirdos flock to that

Rock climbing has been great for my kid.

Why are you being a jerk? I congratulate you on cramming a lot of jerkiness into one short response.

OP, cross country is non-contact, and you compete in no small part against yourself in trying to improve your times. Tennis is another possibility.

Is volleyball out because of the risk of being hit by a ball? Otherwise, cross country like pp said, or swim.

Why does it have to be a team sport? As a shy kid, the last thing that I wanted was to be responsible for the success or failure of a whose team of people — whose makeup I had no role in choosing. Maybe sports where individual performance is highlighted — such as swimming, or track and field. Depending on the kid’s interests, I’d probably suggest something like yoga or dance, or ice skating. Or activities like swimming and riding a bike for enjoyment and fitness — vs a team sport that emphasizes competition.

How old is she? What are her interests?

Try water polo

swim is not very social because your face is mainly in the water during practice.

are you looking for less contact or less social or both?

Running, tennis, swimming or golf would be my pick.

Best team sport for a shy kid is softball. Unlike soccer, basketball, etc, where the kids never pass it to anyone other than a couple players and the players even steal the ball from their own teammates, in softball when it's your turn to bat no one else is going to take your turn.

Still a risk of getting hurt, but the girls often wear protective masks and it's not a sport if there is zero risk of injury.

I love softball, but if OP’s kid is upset after getting hit in the face with a soccer ball … might not be a good fit. The girls pitch FAST and hit batters a lot in 10u/12u.

On the flip side, pp is right that the sport demands teamwork, and everyone bats. It’s also a friendly/fun environment.

Crew. She can do learn to row at Thompson’s in Gtwn to see if she likes it

Water polo is a terrible choice for a kid who was upset being hit by a ball. Water polo is vicious.
