Airbnbs or hotels in Costa Rica

Anonymous
We just booked our flights for winter break, and it seems there are no decent hotels available in Arenal or Monteverde area to stay!! Please recommend any AirBnBs you likes, we are usually quite hesitant about them...Family of 4!

My family of 4 loved the Kapetsowa Container Loft near the Monteverde reserve. Really great house and the most affordable lodging of our Costa Rica trip reserved on Airbnb. We also enjoyed the Tabacan Resort for the hot springs…the room was very nice, but less exciting after the container home. Finally, Tulemar was another great stay! Enjoy.

I have always had good luck with Airbnbs. Jus be sure they have good reviews. We stayed at this one in Monteverde this summer. it was basic but had a lovely balcony with a great view and monkeys that visited us out the back door.

The unit below it is also a rental owned by the same host.

This one looked incredible be was booked when we were going: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/37518547?adults=3&checkin=&checkout=&children=1&infants=0&pets=0&wishlist_item_id=11002126988795&source_impression_id=p3_1697039640_gUnbrOzB0Okzd0H6&previous_page_section_name=1000#availability-calendar

Please also recommend some in La Fortuna area.
What would another central place be to stay if visiting Arenal and Monteverde?

I posted above for Monteverde. We stayed at a hotel in La Fortuna (Hotel el Silencio del campo- highly recommend, but likely full) There is no central place to stay between these two place. They are a solid 3 hrs apart on very narrow winding roads and you would not want to drive back and forth for activities.

Just look on Airbnb, find a place with good reviews and book. it is really not that hard.

Will you have a car? That makes it more flexible. What dates are you looking for in each place?

I highly recommend you talk to a travel agent. We ran into the same problem over Spring Break. We couldn’t find anything decent in Arenal. A travel agent was able to get us into a great place for 3 days and then a different place for another 3 days. They also arranged transportation. I would contact Costa Rican Vacations.

Yes, we are planning on renting a car. This is over winter break.

Get your car asap. That’s harder /more in demand than hotels. Booking.com often has apartments and private places as well as hotels . For cars adobe; vamos; wild rider and off road costs rica are good options. I’m sure there are others. Just stay away from economy.

What do you mean by more central place to stay? Most people do a beach area for a portion of the trip, but the beaches aren't particularly close to Arenal or Monteverde, which are also about 4-5 hours' drive apart.

Agree with other post. If you are looking for holiday travel accommodations/hotels, then your best bet is to work with a travel agent specializing in CR which will have rooms allotted to them during peak travel times.

This isn't even in Monteverde. If you really want to go to Monteverde just get an Airbnb. What are your dates I'll find you a great place.
