Columbia Heights CVS

I listened to NPR this morning and there was a story about how thieves walk in and strip the shelves bare. The reporter said while she was there about every 20 minutes kids came in and took things and walked out and no on did anything.

I’m getting really sick of the crime apologists in this city. Or those who say “stores have insurance! They’re evil anyway!”. Or “these people aren’t criminals, they’ve been marginalized their entire lives and need Tide to survive!!!”

It’s enough to make me vote Republican out of spite. Obviously, on a local level that does nothing. We will continue to have Green Party city council members masquerading as moderates democrats, but really maybe at some point a strong on crime Republican president and congress, if in power, would institute a criminal control board to take over for the city.

We can’t have nice things because too many fkwit bleeding heart crime apologists won’t allow cops to arrest, courts to prosecute and anyone to go to jail and off the streets. I know I’m a heartless piece of sht.

I completely agree with you. They have allowed the criminals to run the city.

People need to pay attention and vote for candidates who actually address this stuff. Too few people pay attention and we're left with council members and ANCs who suggest paying criminals when they commit crimes. It's insane.

There's a good discussion about the CoHi CVS on Reddit. Lots of speculation that CVS corporate is keeping it open on purpose in such dire shape in order to generate media interest and use it (and a few other locations around the country) as a scapegoat when reporting lackluster quarterly earnings.

CVS runs the pharmacy in Target across the street. That is clean, well-stocked, and orderly.

Obviously there’s speculation, people don’t want to face Occam’s Razor that maybe there is an actual problem with theft. But yeah totally let’s anecdotally speculate on a big, evil, insurance-carrying company as being at fault. We can’t point the finger at anyone because it might cause offense. That’s more important than a swift response.

Why is the CVS at the Target across the street is so much better shape? CVS execs literally name-checked the CoHi CVS on a recent earnings call to blame for shrinkage.

It's been in dire shape forever, yet corporate keeps it alive and drastically under-staffed for no good reason.

I mean, CVS is authorizing news reports like these:

Anyways, here's a good discussion among the normies who actually use the CVS in CoHi. Lots of suspicion that CVS is using the store to create losses to offset tax liabilities. It's not a terrible presumption.

It’s all a big conspiracy. I mean you cracked the case. Nothing to see here.

Local crime apologists who don’t like accountability or incarceration and will twist themselves into pretzels for their reasoning - 1

When one party rules, not matter the party, it’s not good. Didn’t you learn absolute power corrupts absolutely?

Thanks Brianne.

I don't understand why they don't implement door control, having security only allow a few in at a time as is the policy with many stores in Tenley when schools get out? And why doesn't CVS prosecute and lean on AG to do so? If there was a crackdown, the kids would learn that in short order. It's like they are grooming kids to steal, why? Who benefits from the status quo?

I work at a nearby school. The kids do the same at 7-11, 5 Below, Target. They walk in with their loot every day. They know the expectation is just take what they want and walk out.

I listened to the story too. Another thing it mentioned was that it's store policy not to intervene in order to protect their employees. That just seems like a dumb decision. Surely hiring a few security guards would cost them less than what they're losing to theft.

I’m telling you, this is a systematic work stoppage by MPD. You could put two cops inside that CVS and they wouldn’t do sh#t to stop some middle schoolers from stealing everything off the shelf.

The kids don’t care, the cops don’t care, and apparently CVS doesn’t care. The city should seriously consider yanking the occupancy permit so it stop attracting crime.

Yeah hire security guards but they aren't trying to loose their life.
