AI proof careers?

Anonymous
I went to a presentation on AI and now feel as if many jobs will be replaced by AI and generative AI in the next 10 years. I also have a kid. What are well-paying meaningful careers that won't be significantly impacted by AI? Other than trial lawyer, I am having trouble imagining what careers those will be. Maybe something in the sciences?

Hypothetically if AI gets to be good enough no job is safe. There is a theory that the next big economy will be the story teller economy.

AI can tell stories.

I think the appeal of stories is that there is a human element and also nostalgia. AI isn’t very creative and can only use existing concepts.

Your last sentence applies to 95% of the bestsellers on Amazon. Tell me AI couldn't write up a crapola Colleen Hover novel.....

I do hair and make up on films and felt reasonably secure in my profession.
How is AI going to do the hair of all the background and extras ( that’s my main gig)?
Turns out the studios plan to just start computer generating the background actors in the future.
So… yeah…

I was a bench scientist who now works in scientific review and grants administration. Use of AI is strictly prohibited.

Hoover is a frivolous summer read. I’m talking something better. AI would never match a great author.

Careers that require interaction in the physical world have more protection for now. It will be awhile before AI is combined with robotics to enable AI to freely interact with physical objects. Jobs like this include the trades (plumbing, carpentry, electrician), retail, restaurant work, emergency services (firefighters) etc. But even those will be impacted by the use of AI.

If you’re worried, the best thing you can do is probably to pay off your mortgage.

Good thing I’m a trial lawyer!

Electrician - most all trades

But AI could easily do my job.

Who will tell the ai what to do? Someone must be needed for that?

When they computer gets good at a job, people heindo that job just need to learn to the computer to do their job.

Plumber, electrician… the trades.
