Wilson shows how the mayor has totally failed DC

Anonymous
Muriel Bowser is responsible for all city agencies.

DC has a strong mayor system. It’s not the Council - they have little control. (Stop calling the Council when you have issues Call the Mayor.)

And the mayor has totally failed to run the city well. The mayor’s agencies are run terribly.

The clearest example is the Wilson pool. It has been closed basically since February. Why? HVAC problems.
Who runs the HVAC maintenance? DPR.

Who runs DPR? The mayor.

The mayor is responsible for running the police poorly. She is responsible for running the schools poorly. And she is responsible for running DPR poorly and keeping our premier city athletic facility closed for months.

It’s the mayor. Just say it.

The pool has been closed since February? Wow, it was such a gem.

Shootings in DC? The mayor failing to control the police.
(Also the Supreme Court changing the second amendment, but that’s not in city control.)

Homeless on the streets? The mayor failing to run the housing and social service agencies well.

Traffic violence and MD/VA people not having to pay for tickets? The mayor failing to fix it.

No additional middle schools and Deal packed to the brim? The mayor failing to have a school plan.

Dirty streets?
The mayor failing to run DPW well.

We have a strong mayor system — the mayor is responsible for all of this.
And Muriel Bowser is simply a bad mayor.

Unfortunately the Council is awful too. Call them BOTH and don't accept finger pointing.

Here you go:

The name of the school has been changed for a year and a half. I would not trust the opinion of a poster who doesn’t know that.

The school name changed - the pool is still called Wilson so I would trust them over you

The pool is still Wilson.

I thought she took all maintenance responsibility away from the individual agencies and consolidated/centralized it?

Traffic violence? I shudder to ask

What changed in the past year, because the preceeding 8 were pretty good.

Have there been updates on how long the pool will be closed for? It actually opened back up for some of the summer.

I think that’s DGS’s screwup, not DPR. But the mayor is responsible for both.

She has lost interest and her more competent Green Team loyalists have moved to better jobs or been driven out due to scandals (though she has tried to bring these at least two of these people back - Karima Holmes, Melinda Bolling - with mixed success). She refuses to look outside her inner circle and flagrantly flaunts the District's rules on how long someone can be an acting director.

You would think she could get her developer/builder buddies to fix the dang pool - it would be the least they could do.

No RFK if she can't make DPR/DGS work!!

I thought this thread was going to be Alexandria based on title.
