Looking at the trendline it seems like it may take a couple more years to work the bugs out of this new test and the results are more meaningful. Really wish they had stuck with a national test.

Yeah, it’s really going to be interesting when the MCAP starts counting for 20% of the final grade in certain high school classes this year! It’s either a pretty terribly written test or our schools are doing a terrible job teaching kids what they are supposed to know.

50% proficient (higher and lower based on school) seems in line with MCPS grading scale.

Or parents and society are doing a terrible job preparing kids to learn. Schools don't own the children.

As usual, more money at home = higher scores.

This is the equivalent of letting students grade their own homework. Those test scores will come out exactly how the mcps boe wants them to.

Well, it's a new test that hadn't been used before a year or two ago, and there was no basis for comparison. It seems to have much higher expectations than the PARCC which was a national test, but it also seems like the state is trying to improve it. Unfortunately, it will take several more years for that to have meaningful results.

What is the point of a separate state and national exam? The tested material is similar, but the national tests are more vetted, so it seems like an extraordinary waste of time and money.

It's good in spirit, but I really wish they'd share calibration information to help people understand what the scores mean. The verbiage they publish is uselessly fuzzy. They need to publish a slate of sample questions that each score level answer correctly, and correlate scores to other tests.

The point is to funnel money to testing companies, who are great at lobbying and donating to politicians.

I check out my kid's school, and I don't even know what I am reading, lol. How do they give out score for academic, based on MAP tests?

Maryland has a particular curriculum, with specific objectives, against which they want to assess students.

It’s really irritating that MCPS has not yet sent out the score reports. The state says they have access.

I was shocked at our school at how low the math 7 and math 8 pass scores were. Single digits. I know some kids are in algebra and/or geometry then, but that’s still really low

Not really, but if that's what you need to tell yourself...
