| I am Pakistani and I was recently in Cape Cod for the first time. I was surprised to see no Indians or Pakistani families considering there are lots of high achieving south Asians in the North East. Where do you guys vacation? |
| I’m not surprised. They are not big beach goers in general! |
| We take Nat Geo/Lindblad trips every chance we get. I’d be bored to tears in Cape Cod. |
|
Where do we go in summer? Or winter?
Summer- Europe 2-3 weeks (loving the Balearic Islands these days and they are very welcoming). Winter: ski and beach (aspen or telluride; followed by Mexico or Caribbean) Mexico - montage Cabo Caribbean - all over |
| Indian-American here - I find the whole “take the same beach vacation every year” thing really boring. I’d rather go somewhere with more to do. |
|
Desi here. Born in the US.
You guys are lame/nuts and weird. We are normally wealthy ppl and vacation where a lot of other ppl vacation! Europe/Med. Beach in US winter. Ski. Africa for safari. Yes we swim - lot. Have pool at our 2nd home. |
+1 I am Indian-American and we sometimes went to the beach for the day, but it would never be the focal point of a vacation. I would say national parks, Caribbean, Europe etc. And of course going back to visit family. |
Agree that was true when we were growing up. I am first generation my parents immigrated in the late 60s but now for my family and my children the sea/beach is a big point or focal point. We are boating family. They also spend a fair amount of time in the Mediterranean, so sea, Boat, sun is a big part of our vacation time |

Truly depends on how much you were spending. Indians tend to be cheap on vacation spending.
Though there are a fair number of really really really wealthy desis now due to sale of startups etc. |
I saw a bunch of Indians at Acadia over the summer. Maybe they stopped in Cape Cod first and you missed them, OP. |
I think Acadia attracts a lot of Indians because of the light houses. |
|
From what I’ve observed: European cities.
I saw an obviously wealthy Indian family on the beach in DE—several generations—and they seemed bored and confused. Only the youngest kids seemed to know how to enjoy a day at the beach. |

I’m not Desi so maybe I should not answer. I always see lots of Desi families when we go to national parks and on cruises. Often traveling with grandparents which I love to see. And that’s consistent with most of my Desi friends. Probably fewer long trips to Europe because most of my friends go to India/Pakistan go visit grandparents for the long vacations.
Most of the Desi families I know are doctors, engineers, etc. if you’re talking about really wealthy folks (ceo, investment bankers, etc.) it might be different. I assume they travel like every other extremely wealthy folks! |
LOL. Considering that my earliest memories of fun family days at the beach actually took place in India, this kind of trolling is ridiculous. |
Yea not mine. Lots of diff types of Desi exp. I was born here. I’ve only been to India 5 times! And never ever to a beach in India… Waste of time. |
