Is Whittle trying to help the families? Do you know if they're being upfront with them about the situation?

How can they have school...or boarders ...or insurance....or faculty who feel safe in the building, without a renewed certificate of occupancy? The CO expired 1/5 and there are probably fees associated with renewing it...and their bank accounts are garnished ..

What’s your source for the CO expiring on 1/5? Aren’t those charter schools still using some of the space?

What charter schools are using the space? I didn't think there were any charter schools in ward 3.

As I understood it, Whittle is on the board of Friendship Public Charter Schools and he offered them administrative space in the building. Not space for schools or students, but some for the management offices. Never heard whether they took him up on it or not.

I thought students were also using it. Definitely saw Elem age kids walking around the sidewalk when the weather was nicer. Whittle was also allowing other private schools to use their gym during volleyball season.

Dunno.....It might be......All I heard was that he was giving space to their management offices, but there certainly could have been more.

Any reason why the kids in question couldn't have been Whittle students, though? Wouldn't surprise me if they have more of their younger kids left than their older kids, given that the older kids' families may feel they have more to lose as college approaches.

I do also know of an arts-education group that he offered free space to. Ultimately, they didn't take it, but I doubt that's the only such offer he made. Because the offer I heard about was not to anybody with a connection to Whittle. So I figure it must have been part of some plan he was carrying out.....Although I don't know what his reason would have been for offering free space to small nonprofits at a time when creditors were coming after you....

My child’s sports team is supposed to play Whittle at Whittle in a few weeks, so I can report back on whether it’s even still open.

I am virtually certain that there will be a WaPo and Wash Biz Journal article well before that.

Same for our school but all games for January were canceled or postponed due to the current surge.

The word is a school nurse has asked staff to go to libraries to collect free covid tests to stock the school. Disgraceful.

I have serious doubts about this claim since they use a reputable health firm for testing.

Uhm, wouldn't that require money to pay? If the school can't even cover payroll . . .

Moving back in from where? Where have they been staying?

They went home for winter break and haven't come back yet.

They aren’t the only school doing this! PCR tests are hard to come by except for your scheduled day with a contractor. Schools need more frequent and individual PCR tests. When they can’t get the test or the results in a timely fashion their only option is to get rapid tests kits at the last minute.

Who else is doing this?

I don't believe that schools are having teachers -- DC residents only -- stand in line at libraries to get 4 tests. If tests are that difficult to get, they would make it families' problem.
