And Poplar Tree |
It is such a small portion of kids that play travel sports! |
They read this site and talk about it. There is someone posting "Crossfield people should do this...." and the Rooted in Oakton people are basically taking that messaging and turning it around into their own, so they should be thanking that person. |
So, kids "opt in" before they know if they will be "in boundary" and won't know for sure if transportation will be provided? Who made this timeline for the Western school? It defies logical thinking. |
| This board deck is the most asinine thing I have seen. Who in their right mind is going to opt their kids into a school that you dont know if you are in the boundary for (so no friends) and potentially no transportation. And what the hell are the little school diagrams supposed to be showing? This is beyond awful. |
They are now pivoting to Option B. |
Who is they? |
I'm sure that their planning and programming will help them win this award (from Superintendent's Reflections) https://www.fcps.edu/news/superintendents-weekly-reflections-160 I’m pleased to announce that FCPS will be submitting an application for the Baldridge Award for Excellence this week. The Baldrige Award is a national program that helps schools and organizations improve how they work, make better decisions, and focus on what matters most. Our application will be reviewed by experts from The Partnership for Excellence, who will study our systems and give us helpful feedback about what we’re doing well and where we can grow. This process builds on the progress we’ve already made — including winning the Spirit and Pioneer Awards earlier this year. Even though we’re proud of our strong performance, we know there’s always room to improve. The Baldrige process gives us a clear way to reflect on how we lead, how we serve our students and staff, and how we can get even better. It helps us focus on important goals like student success, using data to guide decisions, and being responsible with our resources. Writing the application has already taught us a lot about our strengths and areas where we can improve. In March, we’ll meet with Baldrige examiners to talk more about our work, and later in 2026 we’ll receive a feedback report with specific ideas for improvement. That information will help us make our systems stronger, work more efficiently, and continue offering the best education possible for our students. This work matters!! |
They’d have been so much better off postponing the opening of this school until it was ready to accommodate three grades, and then opening it with fixed boundaries and only allowing rising juniors to stay at their prior schools. But they have no spine, so they just toss out one bad idea after another. In placating people who should have been reminded of their good fortune, they are making Western HS seem less desirable by the day. |
| No one wants to move Juniors so they are not going to open it with three grades. |
Rising juniors moved to Westfield, and I think to South County when they opened. |
I could see two groups opting in: 1) those currently zoned for Westfield or South Lakes (or highly likely to be moved to one of those) who want to avoid it no matter what; 2) those who are in boundary for Western HS in all four maps that have been shown so far. |
It is such a clusterf*. How are 8th graders supposed to pick their courses if they won't even know if they are zoned for the school until June?? If the staffing isn't even done until the spring?? |
I agree but the only reason I can imagine South Lakes families would choose Western is to go to an AP school and Western won't even offer AP its first year!! |
