Speaker of the House Vote Thread

This is what the founding fathers intended. Good for the holdouts. McCarthy thinks this is his speakership to have, that he deserves it. Unfortunately for him, others disagree and for good reason. So many of us want change and McCarthy will not bring that change. Already he’s had to give concessions but he has apparently not convinced some of his peers that he is trustworthy. The fact that he won’t bow out speaks volumes in regards to his arrogance.

It’s the two year anniversary of the January 6 Insurrection today. Members-elect should wear black armbands, acknowledge the law enforcement officers who defended the Capitol, and ask for a moment of silence for the law enforcement officers who died as a result of the attack.

Members-elect should also acknowledge all the members of Congress who, on that day two years ago, worked to keep our democratic republic alive. AND SPECIFICALLY thank Kevin McCarthy for his attempt to stop the violence on that day, quoting his own words, “When they started breaking into my office, myself and the staff got removed from the office. In doing so, I made a phone call to the president telling him what was going on, asking him to tell these people to stop, to make a video, to go out. I was very intense and very loud about it." and reminding everyone of McCarthy’s concurrence with Mitch McConnell that January 6th was a “violent insurrection”.

And after that acknowledgment of McCarthy’s anti-insurrection stance (but not his subsequent back-tracking and Trump licking) just enough Democratic members-elect should vote for him to ensure his election as Speaker of the House on this anniversary of the January 6 Insurrection.

The combination of Democratic votes and an on-the-record, highly visible reminder of his (admittedly brief) stance against Trump and other insurrectionists will erase whatever remains of McCarthy’s ability to lead the Republican party and the House … from the very first day of his Speakership.

Not quite. McCarthy then flew to Mar-a-Lago to appease Trump. So he's a traitor, and he will not be helped.

If the Republicans want to vote for Hakeem Jeffries, they are free to do so.

Yeah... I doubt his highly-varnished version of what he did off the record, particularly given his later, very public actions. What we DO have on record is Nancy Pelosi communicating with everybody to get help for Congress.

The only choice? Won’t happen. What’s going to happen is eventually McCarthy will give the right concessions (including the ability of the Rs to toss him) or step aside so another Republican can be elected. Paul Ryan’s welching on his promises was a huge problem for the American people - he helped to get us in the mess we are in today. After this huge spending bill passed, I’ve had it. Done. Let them fight it out. THIS is what a Representative Republic looks like.
