They'll care when disney decamps for another state. They know that won't happen. They may or may not lose in court, but it doesn't matter either way because they got to make their stand and it won't cost them a single penny of Disney money being taken out of Florida

Scoop: DeSantis dines with Miriam Adelson, other major GOP donors in Israel

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis dined with Miriam Adelson — former President Trump's top financial backer in 2020 — and other major GOP donors in Jerusalem on Wednesday, according to two sources who attended the dinner.

Driving the news: DeSantis arrived in Israel on Wednesday as part of a four-leg trip that could help the likely presidential candidate boost his foreign policy credentials.

DeSantis met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog before attending a dinner at the Museum of Tolerance, where he was the guest of honor, according to sources in the room.
The dinner was hosted by Larry Mizel, a Denver-based business executive and philanthropist who founded the museum. In 2016, Mizel was the finance chairman for the Trump campaign in Colorado.
Mizel did not respond to Axios' request for comment.
Behind the scenes: DeSantis sat in between Adelson and Mizel during the dinner in Jerusalem, which lasted for about two hours, according to sources in the room.

The Adelsons were early backers of DeSantis when he ran for governor in 2018, contributing at least $500,000 to the Friends of Ron DeSantis PAC.
Sheldon and Miriam Adelson were also Trump’s biggest donors. In the 2020 election, $90 million of the more than $200 million they contributed to Republican groups and candidates went to Trump's presidential campaign.
Trump awarded Miriam Adelson the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2018. Sheldon Adelson died in 2021.
Mizel, meanwhile, has been one of the biggest donors to Trump and Republican groups in Colorado.

The hats are not copyright, they're trademark, and DeSantis is going to lose.

+1. this is trademark infringement, and there is no time limit for trademarks as long as they are used. I can't even start rapping my head around a governor from the alleged "law & order" party and presidential candidate violating TMs of a large US corporation....

oh, and thinking that Disney's "weakest" point is its trademarks means you dont have a brain that thinks

Not PP but pretty sure that was sarcasm. Everyone knows Disney is a total b|tch about protecting its trademarks.

He's getting sued for government retaliation. As he should. Love the end when they talk about how fortunate D is to do this, as smaller businesses who were retaliated against may not have the resources. Calls to mind the venues that lost their liquor licenses for hosting drag events. Go Disney for the little guys.
Does anyone wonder if Disney is quietly negotiating land in say, the carolinas?

Even if Disney is not looking for Landon other states, I sure would let it leave that I was. And let Florida know all those millions and tourist revenue and jobs are going to be gone if you're coming or doesn't stop acting like an asshat

Yes. It's probably prohibitively expensive to re-locate, but it's getting really politically expensive having all eggs in a FL basket.

I thought Rhonda s his closeted name!

Why is it wrong to say that rds has a gay voice?

Pete has a deeper voice than Ron!

I know you’re not asking in good faith but I’m going to answer bc it’s everywhere.
Feminizing a name to become the insult is misogynistic. The joke is that’s it s an insult to be feminine or a woman.
In this case, the joke goes further to suggest that Ron DeSantis is gay, with the insult being that being gay is wrong and making gay people the object of the joke along with Ron DeSantis.
The irony here is that Disney is getting “hammered” for speaking up for gay people.
It seems a tad disingenuous to say Ron DeSantis is evil for going after Disney to dare to speak out against his harmful policies impacting gay people while then making fun of gay people.
It’s one thing to suggest he’s closeted and angry. It’s another thing to go this route. IMHO.
He’s evil enough that this isn’t necessary.

Being gay isn’t wrong — Pete’s gay. Tammy baldwin is bi. Cinnamon in bi. Jared polis is gay. Peter thiel is gay. No one cares.

Being gay in a closeted way is wrong. That’s why reasonable people get the “ick” from Lindsey Graham and Rhonda

Actually it costs the Fla taxpayers a ton of $$ to lose a lawsuit like this to Disney. As well as the reputation to the state.

+1 I heard an interview with Sarah Rumpf the other day - I can’t recommend her writing on this enough - and she said the State of Florida had already hired four outside law firms for this case. That’s going to end up being a mind-boggling amount of taxpayer money and they won’t win - it’s as clear as a 1L constitutional law class. Here’s her latest with lots of links to her earlier stuff: https://www.mediaite.com/opinion/another-version-of-the-disney-bill-would-have-let-desantis-accomplish-his-political-goals-without-trampling-on-free-speech-or-the-florida-economy/

There is almost no chance Disney losses this battle. Even if they do, it is years in the future. Where DeSantis is wrong is that Disney's time horizon is 100 years meaning they plan to fully be here and running in 10, 20, 40, 50, 100 years. DeSantis is a blip. They tie him up in court until he is no longer there and the new gov is more friendly which they will insure. DeSantis' time horizon is 6-8 years at best probably shorter. Disney can outwait him. He should have known that and he should have cut a deal that would have allowed him to claim victory. Instead he is likely to lose. If he wins all he did was beat up on the state's largest taxpayer and employer. Is he really a democrat?

You missed every point here.

If Democrats take over the legislature and win the governor's race in 2026, will they support giving Disney governing control over Reedy Creek district?
