A man was shot just after 3:00 pm today near the 4600 block of Connecticut Ave NW. The suspects fled through Forest Hills playground. The victim was shot in the abdomen and was taken and treated at the hospital. It should be noted this happened during a rain storm.
Very upsetting on many levels. |
What are the options for addressing the concerning increase in violent crime in Ward 3? The mayor? The council? What can make things better? |
It’s the voucher program where the city pays above market rate for getting voucher holders into market rate buildings. The smaller buildings in Columbia heights have been completely taken over by gangs. There was a good article in the post about this. The city has failed to provide wrap around services for these tenants, many of whom have ongoing mental health and addiction issues. Take it up with your councilman. |
Elect a councilmember that's concerned about this issue, not one who was actively trying to avoid it his first few months in office? |
The voucher holders do not have to accept services is a big piece of the issue. And conditions cannot be put on them under federal HUD Housing First rules. |
I live within close vicinity of today’s shooting and plan to write to Frumin. More residents need to speak up about the decline in safety on our streets. My personal belief is that Bowser has ruined this city. |
Frumin will do nothing beyond a mealy-mouthed response. |
The Saratoga was already reported as a nuisance property under Racine, clearly that did nothing to make the area around 4601 Connecticut safer.

Frumin is useless. It’s actually pretty incredible. Drives me insane seeing him peddling around the neighborhood on his bike with an aloof smile on his face. |
There is no will to change this, so it will continue to get worse. Sad to think of all the victims. |
+1000 Every Ward 3 voter needs to watch last weeks CPCA meeting on crime issues with Matt Frumin. Two small business owners conveyed how their lives have been threatened on multiple occasions. A brave parent spoke how her kids no longer feel safe. Low energy Matt just kind of shrugged. Said it’s worse in other parts of the city. No anger. No indignation. Just more talk of root causes and need for more listening and, of course, more money. This clown is going to get us killed. |
So why aren't there more moderate Democrats willing to be tough on crime in DC? Surely they can see that this is what the population wants, no? |
The folks who run the Ward 3 party are not moderate. They are young socialists and aging hippies. The realization that the defund the police movement has brought the city to the brink and led to the deaths of thousands of black and brown people around the country is too much for them to fathom and threatens their entire understanding of the world and their role in it. |
I believe the current answer is: Oh well. |
