How did you meet your husband?

Anonymous
My daughter and I are having a lively discussion right now. She is 23 and is considering a move to DC, but she feels that she will never meet "anyone" in such a large city. Can you tell me how you met your husbands, where, when and how? I'll start - I met my husband because he had the apartment over mine and he was always out on his small balcony entertaining to all hours. I went up to tell him off, and he asked me out. That was 31 years ago.

I met my husband at 2am in a Restaurant/Bar/Nice Club in downtown Manhattan. The last thing on my mind that night/morning was meeting someone and in fact, when he called me two days later, I did not remember who he was. BTW, I later learned that he was a year ahead of me at college and he actually dated a few of the girls that I used to hang out with in college plus one of my law school classmates (this one always makes me smile because the only thing that I have in common with this girl is law school).

He asked me to Prom (which surprised me because I didn't think I was "cool" enough to be in THAT crowd...I was a major dork in high school).

Good luck to your daughter. Good men are hard to find.

I met my DH when we were both in college working at the same restaurant. Together since day 1, it was love at 1st sight. We both respectively were in relationships and broke it off weeks later to be together forever. 12 years later, we're still here. Oh yea, it was in DC too I was GW and he at G'town.

However, I do have friends who remain single and they tell me it is really hard to meet people here. Its so rush rush and guys are in no hurry to settle down either. I see many friends miserable in dragged out relationships with no firm commitment in sight.

I met my husband when I was 23 at a bar in downtown DC. He worked with my roommate and she had invited a bunch of people to go out after work. Here we are 12 years and 2 kids later...

Met dh on match.com after I had given up on online dating. He contacted me just before my annual subscription ended and I was not planning on renewing.

I met my husband when I was dancing at Good Guys. We didn't actually start a relationship until after about 2 years. We have been married for 7 years and have 3 children.

He was roommates with the boyfriend of my old college roommate. I was just getting out of a long term relationship and was not looking for a relationship. We still joke (it was 13 years ago) about how I kept trying to shake him off and he wouldn't let go. It paid off for him!

On match.com 4 yrs ago. Tell your daughter not to worry.
I was divorced and over 30 (had the out-dated notion that anyone still single over 30 was a loser) and terrified that I'd never find someone. But I met several wonderful men on match.com, before finding my soulmate (TRULY and never believed in that concept before). With the internet, there's no reason to be single if you don't want to be, or to settle!
