Evening workouts

If you workout in the weeknight evenings, after dinner (as a necessity, not changing), do you eat afterwards?

I recently started swimming after dinner and didn’t notice results (weight loss) until I stopped eating afterwards. It’s not the most fun but neither was beating myself up for inevitably eating too much after the workout. If the hunger is bad enough to affect my sleep, I’ll have a banana or apple etc. If weight loss isn’t your aim, I imagine this wouldn’t apply.

Thanks. I’m wondering if it’s messing me up. I’m in peri menopause and weight has come on a little. I fast with my cycle but if I’m eating at 8pm that might not be helping. I do want to lose weight and definitely not gain more.

Definitely not.

No. But I work out much later, like 10:30. I eat dinner around 7 and that’s my last meal of the day.

I might depending what time dinner was - I usually stay up until 1 and if I ate dinner at 7 and worked out at 9, chances are, I'll be hungry at midnight. I would normally have a handful of peanuts and a handful of berries or some cheese or something. I have not had an issue with peri-menopause weight gain so far (age 51).

Eating after you work out is not an issue per se, but you need to adjust your total calories. So eat a bit less at dinner and have a small high protein snack after your workout.

That makes sense. Since I fast, I think I’d rather start my eating window earlier the next day rather than wait until noon because I ate at 8:00pm.

If I’m hungry, yes, because that will interrupt my sleep. But I eat a snack like raw almonds and a glass of soy milk. Easy and filling. And both are foods that I love.

I do and especially after I swim, which I do almost every night during the summer.

Peanut butter is my downfall, and swimming does little to trim back your stomach or I would be thin as a pancake.
