Thomas Jefferson High School drops to 5th in latest US News ranking

"The data U.S. News used to rank Virginia schools was assessment data from 2018 to 2019 and 2020 to 2021"

But I'm sure we'll still find a way to blame the new admissions process

“ The data was from before Thomas Jefferson High School implemented changes to how it admitted students into the highly selective school.”

Like pp posted - this is from before changes were made.

Also, the assessment data is from the year where schools were virtual and tests were optional. Schools that remained open during the pandemic probably had a boost in scores compared to the schools with lengthy closures.

Most of these schools are TINY!

The data differences are minuscule at the top. This is no biggie. I'm glad there are now other contenders!

This. There was no data from 2020 and 2021.

So many of the other schools at the top of the list have hardly any students. And most of them are not full-service high schools with robust extracurricular programs, arts and athletics.

They’re not really comparable.

The right wing rag that you reference doesn’t mention that the US News data predates the changes that are the subject of the lawsuit.

It wouldn’t fit their storyline. And a little research is too hard for them to do.

When athlete tryout assessments are simplified to personal essays, it shouldn't come as a shock if a top-ranked team is unable to maintain their history of success. Same here.

What happened in 2019-2020? Exams cancelled for COVID?

I'd be more interested in seeing data from those years separately.

It's incredible unfair to say this about a school that invented a time maxhine so that they could apply admissions changes retroactively to past students.
