| Can’t take his race into account anymore. Have you been following the news? |
| No chance at UVA or William & Mary with a 4.0 weighted GPA and test optional. Tech unlikely as well. |

Hello Alabama, Clemson, Fordham, or VT (maybe)
He looks like a good student. Unfortunately, there are lots of good students just like him. |
| The student could be accepted to all 9 schools as his honors and activities reveal his URM status & he is a well rounded applicant. Almost certain to be accepted to 6 of the 9 schools. |
Not true. |
| Schools can no longer use race or ethnicity. That said he seems like a good kid. Keeps busy doing community oriented positive things. That looks good. |
| JMU, UofSC, NC State, Alabama, Clemson, Fordham. Too much competition in state for William and Mary, UVA and possibly VT. Why not VCU, if interested in medicine? |
| Does he have an Hispanic name? |
| He does have a Hispanic name. |
This shouldn’t matter. If he is Hispanic on his mother’s side his name could be John Mills. . . I actually know a hispanic guy called John Mills, when you see him he is obviously Hispanic, on paper not so much. So is he destined to experience all the racism day-to-day life has to offer with zero benefits because his birth name was not Juan Molina. That’s sad! |
Obviously but the point is that his name will give away his ethnicity since there will be no checkbox for ethnicity. |
I agree +1 Also tennis captain isn’t gonna help him at uva, they are drowning in tennis players. Should test. |

Student has Hispanic name. He immigrated at age 4 and he and his family escaped
a very dangerous city. Has dual citizenship. He was born in Mexico but has been a US citizen for several years now. He is also interested in VCU for sure. |
| Look, the bottom line is that even before the Supreme Court decisions Hispanics in general were not being given the same bump in admissions as African Americans. The bump was much smaller. If OP’s son will be a first generation college student and his first language is Spanish his “story” might be more compelling, but even there UVA and William & Mary are not rolling out the red carpet for any application with 3.5 GPA, especially without strong test scores, unless you’re a recruited athlete. |
