I turned 40 this past October and since then I have been putting on about 1lb per month and I don't know what to do as I haven't changed much of anything. I mean I know I should start exercising more but was curious if anything worked for you all- supplements / diet change that is attainable etc. I feel pretty down about it in general. |
There is hope!
I went on my weight loss journey when I turned 50 three years ago. I’ve lost 30 and I’ve kept it off for over a year. I’ve experimented with all different things. I initially did WW, which worked for a while but isn’t that precise. All the “free” foods tripped me up. What I’m doing now and what I which I had discovered 3 years ago is: 1. For mental part, read Beck Diet Book, which works with any diet. It helps with the mental chatter that gets in the way. 2. Listen to Dhru Prohit podcast “Why Focusing on Muscle is Key to Weight Loss” - good summary of this approach 3. Weightlifting with heavy weights - I use Jordan Syatt Fitness. I follow their nutrition guidelines using MyFitnessPal. I follow inspirational people on Instagram like Joan MacDonald Good luck! |
First, I encourage you to get it out of your mind that you’re supposed to gain weight just because you turned a certain age. At 40 I was at one of my best fitness levels! But that’s because I put on the hard work with a mix of cardio and weight training. It’s so frustrating that women are gaslighted to think they should start losing their looks, gaining weight, and feeling constantly fatigued past 40! It does not have to be this way. That being said, my second recommendation is to get a full work up from your PCP because there’s lots of reasons why people start gaining weight like thyroid issues. |
Agree with all of this! Also OP, how are you sleeping and what are your overall stress levels like? |
