What's up with Maryland Rush Montgomery?

I never hear them discussed among the best clubs/teams in the area, anymore.

MSI Soccer just acquired MRM……just Maryland Rush Montgomery.

Yeah, no.

They lost one of their phenomenal female coaches to Arlington

If they are affiliated with MSI I would avoid. One of their affiliated coaches was kicked out of one of the cups for a gross ethics violation.

And how many years ago was that? MSI has a brand new Executive Director, and all MRM teams going to MSI are keeping their former Rush coaches. They have also formed a UPSL team

How is MSI making acquisitions?

Wait - what? Are existing MRM teams becoming MSI travel?

Sometimes an 'acquisition' in non-profit youth sports amounts to agreeing to take on teams from a club that can no longer support itself

I'm still not sure I follow. I thought all the soccer clubss are nonprofit 501(c)(4)s. Are you saying MRM was actually losing money?

+1. And others to BSC this year and the year before. Another to Potomac. There isn’t much left for girls side. I know less about the boys side but know they struggled to field teams many ages.

As I understand it, Rush isn't really a "club" as much as a franchise. You find a coach, group of players and then decide how much you will pay the coach, do all the scheduling etc. There's no real admin support-- all the work is at the foot of the coach and parents. If a coach leaves, there's no organization that then finds a new coach for those teams -- so it often folds. I guess its a good model if you are a coach who has a solid team and are happy being self contained, but it seems like a lot of work to me.

MSI’s new CEO/Executive Director was the Potomac coach prior to joining MSI. His job is to make MSI into a good/great travel soccer club. MSI has been much more known for their Rec and Select (Classic) soccer than their travel (academy). Hence, acquiring MRM makes sense. How this works out will be interesting to see in the next couple of years.

What is wish for is actually more MoCo clubs to partner up to field much better/higher caliber girls teams for GA or ECNL. Potomac just got ECNL for the boys side.

Does this affect their two early season tournaments?
