| We’ve both lived in DC for 15 years and are registered to vote here. I get called pretty regularly every few years but I don’t think he ever has. Any ideas why that is? |
| When I lived in MoCo, both of us were summoned within 3 months of getting an MD driver's license. We've lived in FFX for 10 years, and he was just called for the first time in the last few weeks. I still haven't been summoned. |
| You're a good juror and they like you |
|
I think it's luck of the draw.
DH and I have lived in NOVA for 20 years now. This past year I was called up for fed jury duty (and ended up not having to serve). He's never been called up. We're both lawyers, so I'm guessing we'd get kicked off by one side or the other anyway. But yeah, neither of us called up for 20 years, until me the past year and they didn't need my pool of jurors for a trial at all. |
| That is weird. Everyone I know in DC gets called regularly like clockwork. |
| just random luck op. i got called, my spouse never! |
| I used to get called for regular DC jury duty like clockwork every other year after I registered to vote in DC at the turn of the century. My last two times have both been federal, though (didn't serve on a jury for either). It's all just completely random. |
DC is the only place where you aren't likely to get excused just because you're a lawyer. There are too many of us here. |
+1 I'm a DC resident, and I get called every 3 years. |

DC is the only place where you aren't likely to get excused just because you're a lawyer. There are too many of us here. It’s true! Dc literally couldn’t fill a jury if they kicked off all the lawyers. That being said, I am not a lawyer, I have been called for jury duty many many times over the 20 years I’ve lived here and I’ve never actually been seated. |
Everyone says this--it's one of those things people repeat again and again. But the lawyers usually do get booted. |
Same for my spouse and me. |
I am a lawyer for 25 years and get called every 3 years and I have served on a Jury. Many of my friends(also DC lawyers-work for DC gov) have also been called and served. |
|
Totally random. I've been gotten notice twice in the last three years, but both times when I call the number the night before they say not to come.
DH hasn't been called in 5+ years, but he has been *seated* on a murder trial and a rape trial previous to that. I don't know anybody with that kind of jury luck. |
I’ve been called 4 times in 15 years. Two different judges (one in DC Superior and one in federal court) made a point to say that lawyers aren’t automatically going to get excused (it made everyone chuckle at the time, but it’s frustrating because in every other city I’ve lived in, lawyers automatically get excused). I’ve also had colleagues serve. I’m sure there are some DC lawyers who have gotten booted from the outset, but I don’t think that’s the norm. |
