Best sandwich specifically BLT

Anonymous
I am craving a really good summer, BLT, using fresh tomatoes and lettuce and good bread.

Is there any sandwich shop in DC that can pull this off? Honestly, been extremely disappointed in DC sandwich scene. Even if you don’t know the specific menu, if you have a recommendation for a really good sandwich shop, that would be awesome.

Omg. It had never occurred to me that they (can) make BLTs at 5 guys. Bless you for your wisdom in this season of excellent tomatoes and not enough time to eat them all.

But it’s going to be served on a hamburger bun. To me, that’s disappointing. Silver Diner has good BLTs. Crisp, chewy sourdough toast, crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo, with just the right amount of each.

I was going to say they have the best BLT

I have found the best BLTs are in my own house, on either homemade bread or good bakery bread, farmers market tomatoes, and thick cut bacon (I do it in the oven on a rack with a pan to catch drippings -- perfect level of crispness.

One key is to individually salt the tomatoes. Not a ton of salt, just a little sprinkle to bring out the flavor.

Toast the bread in the oven too, unless your toaster is can't fail.

Sometimes I make a flavored mayo but to be honest, if your bread and tomatoes are good quality, you don't need it. But mayo is essential.

Have to agree that the best BLT is one made at home. Tomato should be warm from the sun. Well toasted bread. Butter crunch or Boston lettuce. 5 slices of crispy bacon. Mayo on both slices of bread, but not so much it clumps. And a crack of pepper.

+ it’s surprising how excellent these are, even with the hamburger bun. I’ve been meaning to try Tatte’s version. Their bread is great, and I adore their breakfast sandwich.

+1. Use Trader Joe's sourdough.
