Tell me about middle school PE

Do student do sports at middle school PE classes?
Or do school use PE classes for health lectures?
I have a rising 7th grader. I am considering whether to find him some sports enrichment if school can't provide enough PE activities.

The worst. Where the worst of the MS clique/bi---y behavior is.

But yes, it's partially "fitness" or learning how to play certain sports (I can't remember what it was as it was several years ago). And there is a health/FLE portion as well.

They have to wear uniforms and change in/out for every session.

PE is every other day and they do sports.

They do health but at least at our MS - differently than my MS. In my MS we had 3 quarters of PE and 1 quarter of health. At my kids' middle school - they try to go outside for PE every time, and if it's bad weather and they can't go outside - they do a health day. I guess if they get to the end of the year and didn't have enough bad weather - they just do all the health then.

At my kids' school basically no one changes for PE, by the way - 21:25 again.

I think the actual set-up varies per school as long as the curriculum is completed. So at my kids’ MS, they alternated 2 weeks of PE and 2 of health. They were told they needed to change for each PE class but that it didn’t have to be a school-issued uniform, though some teachers interpreted that as it had to be the school uniform.

Why school uniform instead of sports clothes?

I suspect it’s so the teachers know you’re not just wearing your street clothes but are actually changing. My son, for example, used to only wear athletic wear so theoretically it would be hard to know whether that under armour shirt he was wearing as his special PE shirt or the one he wore as his daily clothing.

its crowded. 4 gym classes at a time. It has some benefit for overall fitness and agility and sports skill but not like being on a sports team. It isn't much different than elementary gym class.

My kids didn't have to change, ever. We never even bought the uniform.

Will MS girls have to change clothes in front of biological girls in their locker rooms again this year?

My daughter just finished MS and she never changed for PE during MS. There were sports- volleyball, Nike riding, basketball, archery- plus health lectures

Our middle school sells them at open house. It says the school name. I don’t know what other schools do.

Ditto. Usually 7th and 8th graders have a color for their grades (e.g., Blue for 7th, white for 8th). The uniform was a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. They were sold at open house and maybe a link prior to that?
