27 BMI- will anyone give me Ozempic?

Anonymous
I have a 27 BMI and no other health issues other than being depressed about my weight, which doesnt seem to count.

Will anyone prescribe Ozempic or Wegovy for me? My GP won’t prescribe it for weight at all, and I’ve been turned down by two online docs who I thought for sure would prescribe it because they’re advertising themselves as GLP-3 providers. Both said my BMI was too low, but I’m in the overweight category. How is everyone else who is way skinnier than me getting these drugs?

Probably online or from someone they know personally. I have heard there are Drs selling their samples.

Do you want it to be covered by insurance, or do you just want someone to prescribe it?

If you have a BMI of 27-29 and are requesting a prescription for Wegovy, you need what's called a comorbidity issue related to weight. That would high blood pressure, Type II diabetes, heart disease, obstructive sleep apnea, or cancer.

If your BMI is 30 or higher, you do not need this second issue.

You cannot get Ozempic unless you have symptoms related to diabetes. That would mean your A1C levels are in the prediabetic to diabetic range. Some doctors, like mine, have approved for prediabetic levels. Others only prescribe for diabetic levels.

The starting doses are all on back order now anyway because people found unethical doctors to give it to them even though they didn’t qualify. Once production can handle the demand again, I’m guessing everyone can get it.

The EU is investigating these drugs for links to depression and suicide. If you are depressed, I personally would be hesitant to take them.

Their BMI is higher despite what you see, their risk factors are different, or they found unethical doctors, take your pick.

Now that 3 doctors have said no, you don't think that maybe this isn't the answer? What else have you tried?

Yes, checking all the local pharmacies and the warehouses have said that they expect to get restocks around the end of this month and then people can start getting the lower doses again.

Curious: would you say the same thing to a women contemplating pregnancy? Depression puts them at a higher risk for PPD. What would you say?

It’s not a controlled substance. Simmer down.

That's frightening. What qualifications do their prescribers have?
