Since DCUM helped find the other poster’s diamond, please help me find my computer.
I know you won’t believe me, but it has been missing for a month and 1/2. I lost my job shortly before that and returned the “work computer” so this is my personal laptop. I have been sharing an even older laptop with my 12 year old and managing from my phone. Obviously not a great solution.
Last seen/used - I used it on a Sunday afternoon, specifically remember using it to download kid math homework from school system. I left it on the coffee table and I think a kid moved it while I was still sitting on the couch - he or she moved it to the other end of the couch. Next morning, a friend dropped in to chat (catching time before the kids were out of school), and she sat on that end of the couch and I remember thinking, “oh that’s where the computer was - where did it move?” Not seen since then! It didn’t show up when I checked find my device (all apple products). I trust one child. I don’t trust the other child, but he does typically use the older (now the only) laptop for games and surfing. We have looked in every drawer, under every cushion, etc. Today we looked again behind and under all furniture. We are in a standard DC row house, so not that many rooms or places to check. The not totally trustworthy child did check at his friends’ house (they do games together). Please help me find it and also pray that the shared computer (which is old) will hold out for a virtual job interview tomorrow afternoon!!!! |
| Did you leave on good terms? What kind of company did you work for, and what is the sketch factor for the company? Any chance they hired someone to break into your house and steal the computer because they were paranoid about what you might have had on it? |
| In the trunk of a car or a bag somewhere. It’ll turn up. |
| Fell between the couch and the wall? |
| It’s definitely in the car |
No absolutely not. Remote contractor for a non profit. Ppl didn’t even know I existed. Like they ordered the other (returned) work computer for me and I picked it up at Best Buy and when I later had a software issue, they had not even registered it in the computer assets/items. I was a nobody and no security clearance stuff. And I have a barky dog and a home alarm with cameras. |
Couch backs up to passage way/open floor plan! I did check behind the media cabinet and a trunk we use to store games. Ok I am going to pull out all the board games to make sure. |
| Be sure to check behind things and under things COMPLETELY. Two things I recently lost I found in the house - one was under the nightstand and I swear I had checked it and under the bed 12 times. Another time I hid a Christmas present so well I couldn't find it. It was in my bedroom closet behind a row of clothes but not touching the ground (I have one of those hanging bars so you can hang two rows of shirts on one regular closet bar). |

Between the cushion and edge of sofa? Like slipped in so it’s on it’s thin edge and super hard to see?
In a stack of papers? In a tote bag somewhere because you were going to go work somewhere else with it Could a metal detector find it do you think? |
| Check the video footage to see if a kid left the house with it. Also check the video footage of a kid left the house with a bag or trash. Maybe a kid accidentally broke it when it was on the couch and doesn't want to admit it. |
I will do a tote bag reconnaissance Monday! |
Ooh that’s good. Will check. Stay tuned. |
| I would sit the kids down and offer them whatever their hearts most desire if they'll tell you where it is. |

I know you are out of work, but you can pickup an iPad for $250 from Costco, pair with a Bluetooth key board for $20
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Rechargeable-Wireless-Keyboard-Black/dp/B0BVBBMWF8/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=anker+keyboard&qid=1687744215&sr=8-2 That will serve most of your computing needs for the time being (unless you are a developer), and be rock steady for interview. |
Yeah kid leaped on couch and crushed it. Move on. |
