Most annoying DCUM posters... name yours.

Posters in the Colleges and Universities forum who won’t name the school their kids attend, other than “big state flagship” or “top 20 LAC”. Like, we’ll ever figure out your identity from where your kid goes to school.
Actually, if sinebofy is asking for admissions tips and I told you how my totally unhooked DD got into the “top ivy” then you might just recognize her. I don’t care about myself, but we don’t need kids to be teased about their moms posting on DCUM….
Sure, Jan.
Posters who use misogynistic terms like Karen and Jan to try to shut other women up.

How about Chad, Tad and Brad? They’re available.
“Sure, Jan” is not like calling someone a Karen. It’s simply a response, and can be directed at a man or a woman.
It’s obviously a put down. Don’t play dumb.
No one said it wasn’t a put down. It’s not a misogynist insult meant to “shut other women up”, though.
+1. It's a Marcia Brady reference, and it applies equally to men and women.
It most certainly does not apply equally to men and women. If it did, we’d have “Sure, Peter” or “Sure, Greg” or “Sure, Bobby” because those guys made stuff up too.

Stop with the misogyny already.
It's an actual line from the Brady Bunch. No one on BB said it about Greg, Peter, or Bobby. They had other stuff going on. "Sure, Jan" means someone is lying about something, trying to make themselves look good.

I can't get the clip to embed - you can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JTSAKFDSVw
BFD. Didn’t Greg, Bobby or Peter ever say something or be on the receiving end of something similar? Go away, Incel.

My new most annoying poster is the lady who doesn’t understand memes or formatting. She has to be the same poster as the “private school sex offender” thread. I can’t even figure out how she keeps managing to f up the quote format in every. single. post.

“That’s from a position of privilege so you must be White.” Really, there are no middle- and upper-class Blacks in the DMV who are worrying about mortgages and their kids’ schools?

People who can't quote on here. Or don't embed their photos or clips.

“I’m a research scientist and I will now tell you what to think about everything from colleges to religion.”

Yeah, I’m a researcher too, at a place you’ve heard of, and I’m not impressed.

LOL. Is "research scientist" still around?

Parents who post that your child will only be successful if they go ivy or top 20. And completely dismiss u if your child plans to attend or attends one of those schools not on their list. I always wonder how those parents get through the day knowing the guy who changed their tire, or the sushi guy, or the guy who fixed their gas line, or the guy who fixes the airplane, may not have gone to a ivy, or be able to read for that matter.

The posters you are talking about don't even see people like mechanics and waiters and gas line technicians. The compare themselves exclusively to people they consider peers and don't really even think of people like their nanny or their kids' teachers or the people who clean their house, take care of their lawn, tutor their kids, etc., as equals in the same way.

Everyone does this to some extent but people in the DMV who are obsessed with their kids being "successful" are among the worst offenders. I once told a dinner party of people that I'd be okay if my kid didn't go to college at all, as long as they had a plan for their future that made sense and were motivated to work towards it, and people just got quiet and changed the subject. These are folks who define success very, very narrowly and don't have time or patience for the idea that what they are trying to give their kid might not even be worthwhile in the end.

Oh yes, yes she is. I’ve seen her twice this past week.

I used to think it was Emily Oster taking a break from work to post on DCUM.

Well said poster or posters. It's almost never well said.

The ones who cry “Troll” at every post, because they can’t imagine a scenario different from what they might personally experience.

+1. I went to a third tier party school for my undergraduate degree. For graduate school, students in my cohort graduated from top SLAC and Harvard. We were in the same program. Sorry but where you go is only part of the picture. What you do while there is more important. Shout out to the third tier college kids!
