If this is such a great move, why wasn’t this done over the summer?

What exactly is the transparency you are looking for? What exactly do you want communicated to you?

For example why has every new admin person get announced as a “wonderful” addition and is gone less than a year later and no one explains what was not so great about them after all?

If CL was a bad pick from the start that was known would never work why not say that right from the beginning.

Since the new interim didn’t spontaneously spawn today, I would assume the search for her has been going on for some time. Why was it never announced that this was in the works?

Why was this announced right after a big admission open house? So prospective parents (and existing parent volunteers) didn’t have to tell them more turmoil to come?

Is this like announcing the head of US was leaving AFTER ppl signed re enrollment contracts?

Why was the CFO departure never announced?

Why does a CFO who was here 25+ years leave without any explanation right after the school appears to be in financial troubles?

That’s just a few questions that come to mind, but hardly the only.

What makes you say the school IS transparent?

Good luck finding any school public or private that is going to give you the details that you are wanting especially if you're wanting them while in motion. But instead of asking the questions here, send an email to the board with your questions.

Done many times. Hasn’t helped.

Really? At least with financials I have found that published for other privates and certainly public schools. Those are public domain available. Not so for ssfs.

As far as admin turnover - if others do the same I haven’t seen it this bad and I’ve been at other schools. And I’ve also not seen this sheer volume of departures at other schools I’ve been involved with either.

1000% agree - but the communication on all these items come from the Board - a group of volunteers without any relevant skills for the crisis before us (although they want us to know it is not their fault because it was the prior board that made bad choices - as though punting responsibility and framing the governing body as a group that lacks continuity from one board to the next is the messaging that is going to reassure us that we in good hands at this moment).

Families have received several emails over the summer and during this school year in which at least one Clerk of the board's email has been visible.

And yet between the end of school year, the time RG left and now (ie, the span of just a few months) the clerk of the board has changed too (3 separate ones). So who would write? Even the board can’t keep a clerk for more than a few months right now.

Parents shouldn’t have to go scrounging around to find BOT contact info. Other schools we were at always had those published readily available in the directory. But not so at the so transparent ssfs.

PP who posted the news initially, thank you for alerting us. Like others have said, my children have had good experiences at SSFS, and the teachers have been so terrific. But this much churn is really awful, and maybe the defender of the board can come on here and tell us why this change was necessary and will be a good thing. Because assuming that they do hire a new head of school, these students will have gone through 4 heads of school in just over a year, and that's crazy.

The change happened because of a terrible family situation. Give some grace, please.

And you know this personally? Cause I’ve heard different from multiple inside sources. And this family situation happened suddenly and yet a new interim was just there ready to go? That’s amazing luck. Or the emergency happened months ago yet she was able to ignore the family situation anyway till they found a new interim that specializes in fixing problem schools? Either way, it’s amazing luck.

The number of admins in the last few years that all left for “family” reasons is quite remarkable. Maybe we should warn new hires of the curse of ssfs admins where they all end up with family problems?

And yet from a board member I know she was not a good fit and this has been known for a while that she wouldn’t work out in this position. I think I’ll take that over this incredibly coincidentally bad timed family situation that luckily still allowed the school to find an awesome replacement.

The amount of energy spent on negativity on this (and every) thread on DCUM is astonishing, but not surprising. What if, instead of spreading rumors, you spent the time making sandwiches for the hungry. Or helping the unhoused. And before you say you *do* do that, please consider even more time doing something to help others rather than spreading possible lies and gossip online. I'm not at all affiliated with SSFS, but heavens, the amount of pear-clutching and I-Told-You-So's is exhausting. Do something to help rather than posting piles of trash on the internet.

PP - the people in this forum dont feed the hungry. If folks look for help or advice, they taunt them. If they dont attend a school experiencing misfortunes, they gleefully relish in them. If they do attend the school, they evidently feel compelled to publicly drag it, regardless of how it affects their kids to have public perception trash their HS career. Its pathetic.

And the reason you are on this deplorable platform reading a thread on a topic you are not connected to or effected by just to get exhausted and then post something preachy to people… is because …. You have nothing better to do with your time? I’m just actually perplexed. Why would I be here unless I had some connection to this school and had some understanding of what’s going on there and wanted to know how other people are experiencing the same events (the good and the bad?).
