What is going on with Columbia Fertility’s billing?

Anonymous
CFA has always been a disaster with billing but it’s getting even crazier. Now they seem to have different billing systems between Ovation Fertility, CFA, and something called Apex. Sometimes I get bills by mail, sometimes an email with a link to an online payment portal but no detailed invoice, and sometimes an email saying they will only accept money by phone during business hours. The numbers seem completely random and I have no idea when I’m current or can expect another $1,000 six months later.

They were doing a little better for a while when they had an office manager who actually cared, but I guess they fired her or she quit because it’s back to the same disaster as before.

Can’t wait to be done with them.

I’m done with them and was so thankful the day I got my records in the mail. Then I got a bill from Ovation. My husband’s bills were all Ovation but I think paid via Columbia and they just didn’t always pass them on. I got an itemized statement of like 12 pages and had to go line by line and found a $75 overpayment (the exact amount Ovation sent a bill for). I asked what it was for and they agreed it was an over payment and said they would process a refund. That was in March, still no refund, and now they don’t respond to my emails.

You need to stay on them. They haven't refunded us for freezing - over $2k. Multiple email chains with everyone on them. Phone calls. Its a nightmare. Supposedly getting our check in the mail this week.

Also they didn't do a follicle count for IVF at each monitoring appointment and all my records minus bloodwork are handwritten. Totally useless. Basically wasted $16k to only for certain know the medication resulted in x amount of harvested eggs. DO NOT GO THERE - current patients praying you are successful now because you are literally throwing away money.

They were so incompetent we stopped trying for a baby before we even got to IVF.

PP with outstanding $2k - despite being promised check was in the mail June 9th - still do not have it. This place gives me pyramid scheme vibes

I agree it’s bad, but nothing about this is like a pyramid scheme.

I mean they told us they put the check in the mail two weeks ago and its still not here. Are they waiting for another person to pay for IVF so the check clears?

They also told me they did insurance pre authorizations weeks before they actually did. Surely they weren’t waiting for other people’s pre authorizations to come in first. What you are describing is incompetence, understaffing, and/or disorganization.

You think? I am not accusing them of being ponzi, just saying it feels very ponzi. In my experience they were on us for the 9k required to begin cycle, but then did not record it and had multiple staff tell us we needed to do it when we came in for monitoring. We did receive our reimbursement this week, more than a month after it was "in the mail." Good luck to all.
