We have not received direction from US soccer

Do you still think we can get to 1000 pages? What else is there to discuss

ECNL hasn't said anything specifically and when they do, 1000 is imminent.

ECNL is under US Club Soccer...so they are changing. MLS and GA are separate.

Yeah…seems like everyone is changing…

They are, August parents will have to look to another savior.

Major League Soccer Academies are supposed to be the gold standard for youth soccer in the U.S. The August bdays are fine. December bdays, not as much.

How so?

Because MLS academies are the best, December birthdays will always be the youngest in their BY system, and therefore have the biggest disadvantage.

Dec. can do biobanding in MLS, your dumbass.
Almost no benefit for a MLSN team to late dev tag a Dec kid. To make the juice worth the squeeze, you want the big kids born in the early part of the year and claim coordination loss with fast growth as a reason and then have em lord over flies.

We sent them to school based on their adjusted age which was supported by our pediatrician and other medical professionals. There are studies that recommend using adjusted age to determine kindergarten readiness, especially for early premies, like ours.

We were doing speech therapy well into their fives so they absolutely weren’t caught up by age 2.

I’m sharing our story because there are all sorts of reasons why August kids start late. These decisions are made based on the best interest of the kids, most of which have nothing to do with obtaining an advantage at sports.

We aren’t chasing college scholarships. I would love for our kids to play with their classmates, but we can deal with continuing to play with older kids. I think they have benefited from playing with older kids.

What I can’t accept is that they might not be able to play at all their senior year. Do better US soccer. Let these kids plays.

What you say is super reasonable and I would expect that some accommodation would be made if your kids still were playing club soccer by then. In fact, I bet you may even find some flexibility for them to play with their classmates, even, depending on what type of league.

And then they just keep losing a step to the Dec. kids that actually have superior athletic ability.

On one of the ECNL podcast they had their technical director on, who is from the UK(9/1 cutoff) and he said with the premier league teams they will have a pretty much even split between older and younger kids, so international game play isn't really an issue because they have plenty of reserves. It promotes a culture of playing "up", but they never had to deal with registration changes as far as I know, so there isn't a stigma attached to Q4 kids.

To be fair…ECNL podcast is not an honest narrator. They didn’t bring someone on from Spanish, German, French or Italian academies…and for a reason…their perspective is not aligned with ECNL’s.

Our national teams are run by and Englishman, like or not it’s here to stay

That’s a different topic. Regardless, our national teams are run on birth year. Not sure what your point was supposed to be.

Feel sad for the BY parents that are all holding out hope that their kid will shine in MLS academy and not realize that this means more U-littles will stay in the sport which will lead to a more even distribution of birth months in those MLS academies

Not a birthday year fan, but the logic doesn’t flow. The participation increase is totally theoretical. There’s no evidence to underpin it. We’re an experiment mode, and I’m kind of excited to see what happens, but we’re also gonna have a lot of variables like the World Cup that will increase participation.

If MLS can do biobanding, why can’t ECNL do biobanding?

Because ECNL isn’t trying to help kids go pro.

College soccer is filled with mediocrity, ECNL does really really well on girls soccer and not so well on boys. Girl soccer is constantly overlooked, ECNL is not nearly as impressive a platform for girls development, skill, or talent, as it’s college placement for results would have you believe.

Isn’t ODP under USYS & ID2 under USCS? So won’t those go BY as well?

Nature of this site. Apparently everyone also has a kid with perfect grades destined for a top 5 academic school in the college forum.

Anonymous wrote:My prediction is that we’ll see an aggressive playing down / bio banding / transition year rule out in place across ECNL in 25/26, where 8-10 BY (e.g., 2012) roster spots can be occupied by Sept. 1 - Dec. 31 kids from BY-1 (e.g., 2011). Pre-ECNL teams will play up a year, allowing for a full transition to SY immediately, and all ECNL-only competitions will be structured as grad year in 25/26 (subject to roster limits above).

This is really what should happen. And if the ecnl teams are playing in events against BY only teams, who really cares. It would be developmental. Or they just don’t need to be played at all.

Of course. Those are intended to be feeders into youth national teams, which will always be BY. This whole mess was created by USSF thinking the entire youth soccer landscape served primarily to feed into youth national teams. But in reality most leagues are simply meant for kids to have fun, develop for HS play, develop for college play, or even develop for pro play, none of which are organized by BY.

Funny that, off these forums, no one, even BY proponents, challenges this.

ECNL can do biobanding and this has been suggested multiple times on this thread.

The BY or SY push is ECNL and youth youngers leagues grouping together to show everyone else that they have power in the marketplace.

It has nothing to do with the kids.
