MPD responds to Tenleytown student mayhem outside of Jackson Reed HS

This is pretty insane and it should be noted that none of the students have been identified as attending any of the schools local to Tenleytown. Great work by the police officers for averting a larger crisis.

Suspect seen tackled in video had brandished a knife apparently at another student. Again, no indication of where these students were actually students.

We are only starting to see the downstream effects of the two year school lockdown in the major cities. Our elected officials erase 50 years of educational progress and we will all be less safe for it.

Good evening,
This afternoon (May 26) a public safety incident occurred in front of CVS in Tenleytown involving a knife. I am sharing the following update from Councilmember Matt Frumin:

"We had a terrible episode in front of the CVS in Tenleytown a block from Jackson Reed and near Deal and Janney. A so far inexplicable fight broke out and a female participant in the fight drew a knife with which she reportedly threatened others. Luckily a police officer was there and was able to disarm her. The situation was perilous, however, because in the face of a very dangerous situation, the officer drew his gun. No shots were fired one was harmed by the knife (or by bleach that reportedly had been thrown). As the event wound down, a series of other girls, one-by-one, confronted the police. The officers acted very reasonably, politely and repeatedly asking them to stand down, but the young women refused to do so and continually escalated until the police had no choice but to detain them. One woman witness said that she wanted to give the girls a hug and get them to calm down, and also said the police action was more than reasonable. The whole episode is deeply troubling. There is a lot we need to do to keep things like this from happening, but for today with a very dangerous situation and nobody hurt, we should all be grateful for the quick and steady work of the MPD 2nd District."

If he leaves for the council summer vacation without first pushing aggressive crime fighting measures then he should be recalled.

Where were the students from? Everybody is very clear to point out that they were not Wilson/Jackson Reed kids. But which school were they from and why were they carrying knives in Tenleytown?

I was actually curious if there was sporting event or something at Wilson at the time. But thanks for interpreting my racism for me.

So kids from Dunbar trekked all the way to Tenleytown to fight kids from JR?

They’re getting the attention they want.

The police did a great job containing the situation.

we got a message from JR's principal that a student from the school was involved in a fight with a non student.

my DD had left the school early adn was not aware. after i told her, she went on an instagram account where apparently students post fights at JR and she found it. she recognized JR's principal and another JR's staff member trying to break up the fight. the girl with the red hair appeared to be thr aggressor in that video, which is much longer than the one posted above and it appears to have been taken before. i saw other JR's fights on the same account and it was idisheartening. in this case it looks like young people not from JR came to go after a JR student

actually some were from JR. JR's principal was there too. from his message sounds like JR's students were not the ones to started it.

Absolutely.

Wow, great job police. I saw a larger clip which showed MPD there, Secret Service, WMATA Transit and Park Police.

You have to wonder why anybody would assume with everything in that area why someone would think that pulling a knife would not be met with immediate arrest. Heck there almost seems to be a permanent cruiser parked in front of the Target these days.

But what was the draw to get a bunch of Dunbar student over there? Was there a game or an event. Or are kids simply cruising rival schools to heckle the kids these days?
