"We had a terrible episode in front of the CVS in Tenleytown a block from Jackson Reed and near Deal and Janney.  A so far inexplicable fight broke out and a female participant in the fight drew a knife with which she reportedly threatened others. Luckily a police officer was there and was able to disarm her.  The situation was perilous, however, because in the face of a very dangerous situation, the officer drew his gun.  No shots were fired one was harmed by the knife (or by bleach that reportedly had been thrown).  As the event wound down, a series of other girls, one-by-one, confronted the police.  The officers acted very reasonably, politely and repeatedly asking them to stand down, but the young women refused to do so and continually escalated until the police had no choice but to detain them. One woman witness said that she wanted to give the girls a hug and get them to calm down, and also said the police action was more than reasonable. The whole episode is deeply troubling.  There is a lot we need to do to keep things like this from happening, but for today with a very dangerous situation and nobody hurt, we should all be grateful for the quick and steady work of the MPD 2nd District."
