ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Its going to be really hard on tournaments to have MLSN2 on BY and Everyone else on SY.

Seems they need to be on one or the other.

He said GA hasn't said anything yet, but he is pretty sure they will be SY along with ECNL. Only MLSN will be staying BY. But GA has NOT released anything to their clubs yet

That seems to be the general feeling right now, but would be fantastic to know for sure before tryouts

Yes thats what I told him. My daughter will be switching to a club that will be SY and we want to know prior to tryouts this spring.

As a general matter, a player should play up if they (and the parents) want to play up. The club shouldn't force someone to play up. If they try it, can always go elsewhere.

Not necessarily. You just would have some teams playing up in the tournaments -- which, checks notes, already happens under BY.

I think MLSN2 will be SY so shouldn’t be a problem

There are a ton of issues with having 2 different registrations. I haven't seen anything that convinces me that it would be beneficial for anyone to stay BY other than to say you align with international standards.

Most MLSN/GA/ECNL clubs all play within their own conference. Rarely playing outside tournaments. With all the new 2nd leagues being added it will be the same. MLSN/MLSN2 will just play amongst themselves. They also allow biobanding which they could do for tournaments outside their own league.

On one of the ECNL podcast they had their technical director on, who is from the UK(9/1 cutoff) and he said with the premier league teams they will have a pretty much even split between older and younger kids, so international game play isn't really an issue because they have plenty of reserves. It promotes a culture of playing "up", but they never had to deal with registration changes as far as I know, so there isn't a stigma attached to Q4 kids.

We actually would potentially limit the impact of RAE otherwise we're just betting the increased participation makes up for it.

It MAY benefit players within the current system, if clubs go crazy and force kids off teams for sept/Q4 players. It would give them options.

That's a great point but I'm not sure anyone wants to potentially take a hit to their bottom dollar to help with RAE. These will be business decisions.

Just to catch everyone up

US club/USYS, AYSO is going SY in 26/27 (9/1-8/31).

We have not received direction from US soccer

GA/MLSN, etc has not said anything

Do you still think we can get to 1000 pages? What else is there to discuss

ECNL hasn't said anything specifically and when they do, 1000 is imminent.

If US Soccer sends out transitional guidance that recommends doing SY teams at any point in 25/26 (even if it's limited) - we will go from 757 to 1000 within a week.
