I can understand the frustration of some of the parents who will still have kids that are trapped. I myself have a kid born in August in a state with an 8/1 cutoff and am not very concerned about the age range of play, but am very concerned about his 8th grade trap and his senior year. Hopefully they’ll have some fixes for those issues because that’s potentially two seasons of no soccer for him. The comments are an entertaining read though lol

I see no issues ECNL still allow 8th trapped player to play down during HS season and senior year will be same as now, a combo team.

Thanks for that! My kid will be in 8th the first year this go into effect so I didn’t know that about ECNL.

Yup 💯. It defies all logic. Please please reach out to league leadership and ask for a solution for the August kids. I did this in January and got thoughtful responses from higher ups at AYSO and USYS and the chair of the U.S. Soccer Youth Council who all seemed to grasp the issue. U.S. Club Soccer and ECNL leadership never responded.

I am particularly shocked that AYSO and USYS would go along with this given the heavy rec contingent under their umbrellas. August bday kids will become absent from the sport entirely over time because they won’t even have an entry pathway for soccer with teams started by parents at their school for Kindergarten. Most kids start soccer by joining a team with classmates. It’s just awful.

So, 20% of states will have 1/12th of their kids affected or this is going to effect roughly 2% of players nationwide instead of the 40+% of players who were affected with Birth Year when it comes to playing in their grades?

Oh yeah, how AWFUL!!! I'm so shocked and outraged!!! THE HUMANITY!!!!! How will these people sleep at night!

Best recent post on this thread that needs to be highlighted for those on the USCS post who don't understand.

If the guidance from US Soccer is anything but "wait until 26/27 to make any changes", we will get to 1000 very soon.

How is it going to work if MLSN stays BY and all the Ulittles feeders go SY ?

For example, the club has a U12 "Pre-MLSN" team, let's just say the whole team is good enough to make the MLSN team, does it mean the team will be broken up into Sep-Dec and Jan-Aug when they go to MLSN ?

If so, what happen to the Jan-Aug kid that got "left behind" ?

The lack of communication from GA and MLSN gives off staying BY vibes

It's also for NEXT year so maybe, just maybe they're taking their time

To me, not necessarily. They made this decision last Friday / Saturday, but only formally announced the decision yesterday.

I am guessing they’re going through the process of discussing and eventually adopting transition rules. Once they’re done, they’ll probably announce it like 5-6 days later.

Will probably be done by the end of this month.

Just talked with a club director as my daughter is going U13 next year (but is a Q4 kid). That club has a GA path. He said GA hasn't said anything yet, but he is pretty sure they will be SY along with ECNL. Only MLSN will be staying BY. But GA has NOT released anything to their clubs yet

That seems to be the general feeling right now, but would be fantastic to know for sure before tryouts

I've heard similar and that perhaps MLSN II will be SY, too.
