This. They have the jobs and financial possibility to leave the men who dont pull their weight as partners.

they reach a point where their life would actually improve if they got a divorce -- they would do less childcare, less household labor, have more free time.

Since they presumably have a good income, the incentive to stay in an unfair marriage is much less.

Where is this statistic coming from? Also, often it's just that women are used to doing the paperwork for this and have their own assets they want to protect. If you don't have any assets, why would you pay to file? Paying to file doesn't mean that you want out more than the other person. This is what I don't get. It just means you want the best deal in the divorce. You want to control the divorce more.

These statistics are really getting annoying as if Women can't hack it which is what the OP thinks. The fact that you can't cite any wrongdoing by the other person in a marriage when divorcing including infidelity means that there is no way to get out of a bad marriage and keep your money without filing. The death and violence statistics prove otherwise. 90% of physical violence against the other person in a marraige is the direct result of the men in the relationship. They didn't just go from great men to murderers and rapists at the time of the divorce.

Wow, I can't tell if you're joking or serious. Many of us married young under the impression that we were in love and wanted the happily ever after dream that was sold to us. We learned of many things, our spouse cheating - financially, emotionally, sexually... and then we have to learn that we are important too, more important than "staying for the kids" lie b/c we all know kids can see through the BS. We have the means to file for divorce and learn to live and love again but not in the fairy tale ways we once believed.

Exactly. People without the means or who want to hide behind something they did are not the ones filing because they have the most to lose.
