Probably the interim gets the job, but no inside information. |
Does it matter? I don't think so. There won't be any changes. |
Have to question the sanity of whoever takes this job. Like taking head coach of the WFT under Snyder, its a no win situation. We need a no nonsense administrator with no delusions of grandeur or political aspirations. |
+1. I hope it's not the acting/interim, which will just mean more of the same. |
Regardless of it is the interim or a new person, it will be more of the same. There is no reason to think otherwise.
This School Board LOVED Hutchings and his policies. There is zero reason to think they would suddenly abandon their policy positions and hire what the district actually needs. Also, the voters would not support a superintendent that would actually change the path ACPS is on. Equity all the way! |
There are a lot of great teachers and principals at ACPS. The senior class is going to some wonderful colleges, regardless of race. Not all is lost. But:
Still trying to recover from the damage Hutchings inflicted on the city. The worst superintendent ever. It may take 10 years to dig out of the hole he dug, not a quick fix. Even worse is the current and recent city council. Incompetence, racial baiting, virtue signaling for higher office are all standard. No support for the school system. The scenes of Balas pleading to council for SRO funding should be required viewing for whoever takes this job. This will only change when the citizens change their voting habits which does not appear to be coming soon. |
And he is actively inflicting that on other school districts. They are hiring him. American U. hired him to teach. And you are right, voting habits aren't going to change. And the people who supported the council but aren't happy with them are too cowardly to speak out, Bagley's core supporters are perfect examples of this. |
The biggest issue with the schools and the school board representatives is that most people who live in Alexandria and actually vote do not give a $ about the schools because they either send their kids to private or do not have children. So they vote to align with their own interests, which are colorful progressive signs in front yards.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m a progressive. But the people currently on the school board and the city council DO NOT CARE that ACPS is failing children and families. They are afraid to do anything that looks like “tough on crime” because it doesn’t jive with their progressive base. We are moving at the end of the school year. I’m sick of the crime our neighborhoods and fear for my children’s safety in school. Whatever superintendent is chosen, they will be an extension of these policies of the school board. Don’t expect anything to change. |
+1 Same is true for anyone crazy enough to run for school board. Why would anyone want that target on their back? |
The interim did not get job, it is a woman though don’t know name. |
On campus? Can you post the email? I’m an ACPS parent and didn’t get anything. |
Dear Titan Students, Families and Friends,
I write to you today with a heavy heart to share the passing of one of our Alexandria City High School (ACHS) Titans, Yonatan Vasquez Mendez, on May 2, 2023. Yonatan has been part of the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) family since he was in middle school, and his passing is a sad and tragic loss for his family, friends and our school community. He was always respectful and was well liked by his peers. On behalf of the entire Titan community, we send our thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones. |
Separate incident today
Dear Titan Staff/Families, At approximately 9:45 a.m. today, administrators at the Alexandria City High School (ACHS) King Street campus called emergency medical services for a student who experienced a medical emergency at school. Emergency medical services responded quickly and transported the student to the hospital. Several students were present during this medical emergency, in which life-saving measures had to be administered. Given that students witnessed this event, we wanted to share this information with you in case your child talks about this incident and you determine that they need support. |
This happened on campus? I don’t see that mentioned and Alexandria times article mentions a medical emergency early in the morning not near school. |
The first incident was not at school, out in west end, the 2nd says right in the email happened on campus. |
