OK, weird question. I enjoy Chelsea. I haven't watched even half of what she has done, but have felt major affinity. I am similar to her, in many respects (I drink, curse, DGAF to an extent, like to say whatever for the effect among friends, love deadpan/dry humor, love to exit) We 're about the same age, and I agree with a lot of her ideas/opinions, except when she gets ugly/obnoxious, which I just saw in her doc "Chelsea Does ..." which was done a few years ago but new to me. In the 4 part series, she "does" marriage (loved it), drugs (loved it), Silicon Valley (has its moments) and ... racism (couldn't watch the whole thing, she needed an editor, I give her credit for overall decent intentions, but demerits for cringe-ful, super awkward execution)
I am wondering WTH is wrong with her (because some of it might apply to me). Could you guess for Chelsea a mental health diagnosis? She admits she qualifies as alcohol dependent. She considers that she is ADD. (I have ADD and drink too much, but I am not insanely confident like Chelsea, and don't have nearly as much money, although I am rich). Ot could be trauma. Or personality disorder. Or just what people with above afflictions do when they have boats of money and a need for attention? |
|
I mean, if drinking a lot and needing attention requires a diagnosis then like 95% of standups have the same disorder.
I haven't seen the Chelsea Does thing you're referencing but I'm having a hard time following you from you didn't like one of the bits to what is the internet's clinical diagnosis. |
Eh, I am up too late and overthinking. I love artists and comedians and understand they must take risks, and might push it too far, and I think they should be forgiven for that in most cases. I just wonder about Chelsea. She's smart but crazy, and some of the ways she is crazy hit too close to home. |

It’s almost like…
Binge drinking Drugs Sleeping around Abortions No children Lots of money …are not the keys to happiness? And maybe, just maybe, there were ulterior motives when entertainment executives pushed this bill of goods on women via entertainers like Handler? |
| She has written about depression, addiction, messed up childhood, etc. Read her stuff OP + you will have a better insight on her. |
I saw she wrote like 6 books!! Can you recommend one, if you have read any? |
| She was great when she hosted “The Daily Show” for a week earlier this year. |
| I thought she seemed like a cruel, arrogant, a-hole bully when she was on E!, which was 10 to 15 years ago? She kicked down and treated staff and guests (and even her family!) like dirt on air because she was suddenly a multi-millionaire and was banging the powerful E! executive. Good to see she’s a miserable lonely spinster. Karma. |
Well, I disagree that she was pushed as a bill of goods. That's some weird conservative energy right there. From what I can see, she worked hard and is fairly brilliant. As far as who she is, she's one manifistation of our culture, circa 1975ish when she was born (not sure that's correct, but within a couple years ok) |

What is your question Op?
Sounds like you generally like her as a comedian and entertainer. How is that newsworthy? If you're critical of her personal life, well, 99% of celebs and entertainers don't live or lead a wholesome or innocent lifestyle. That's not newsworthy either. |
I don’t remember it that way. When she was an A-lister her books PROMOTED filth and laughed off partying, sleeping around and having abortions. Mind you she wasn’t writing these when she was a kid, she was only A-list from early to late 30s. Are you saying she’s since she’s fallen off she’s now writing more circumspect books about all the “trauma” she went through? That’s rich. Trauma like sleeping with the E! boss and getting a show.
|
Not a conservative. Lol. Watched her show at its peak and even read her first couple of books on airplanes. She has always been human trash. And the glorification of what she pushed ruined a lot of lives — including her own. |
No, I am critical of some of her art, and I mostly love her personal life, going on what she has shared. I wonder about her mental health. I think I just want a book recommendation, because I don't think I want to read ALL her books, or maybe I do. I want to understand what made Chelsea the way she is. |
| Read her latest book/ she talks about her journey with therapy. |
Eh that's kinda her schtick though. I wouldn't take it personally. |
