Leaving BVR

Has anyone left BVR before 3rd grade? What school did you go to? And were you happier with the other school or did you regret leaving?

No personal experience but be very sure you’re not interested in NCS/STA, because they aren’t likely to admit you to another Cathedral school if you voluntarily leave one.

I’m sure OP is aware.

I heard Concord Hill is similar to BVR in term of education.

Check out Green Acres, Washington Waldorf, and Grace in Kensington.

Can you share why you are considering leaving?

You never know. Some people still need the obvious pointed out.

I know two students that left for Holton or Landon which both begin in 3rd. Besides that it does not happen often.

What do you want to leave BVR? We want to apply there, what is the problem?

We’ve seen people arrive at our k-12 earlier than 4th grade. Usually for joining an older sib or at other schools for an ongoing accommodation.

Only complaint I’ve heard is it’s not very academic. So 4th grade might be an awakening unless you go to another slow glide path school.

We left Beauvoir after 1st grade because we suspected our child had a learning disability, but the school refused to acknowledge it. No, we were not counseled out or told to leave. We just thought, “Why are we paying all of this money to go to this school and they’re not helping us?!?” It was a very eye opening experience and I still have a lot of negative feelings towards the school because of it.

We are starting there - what does "not academic" mean? Will we have to do prep outside of school for the NCS entrance exam?

Re: the lack of academic focus, we'd heard that too and it made us nervous. We didn't want to send our child to a school that wouldn't prepare them academically for what comes next. Our child was accepted to BVR and though it was tempting to send we opted for NPS which we kept hearing was very good at academic preparation (as well as teaching life skills). Child is at NPS now and we've been very impressed particularly with literacy and math preparation. All that said I am sure BVR is amazing too...but worth thinking on!
