I merged in front of a car this morning, completely safely and appropriately. The person who was behind me in the lane apparently disagreed, gunned it to go around me and stop in front of me at a stop light, and jumped out of his car to yell at me. I just held my phone up and said I was going to call the cops. He got back in his car and was driving again when the light turned green.
Would you have done anything differently? |
That's really scary. I would probably do whatever I could to just drive away. |
no that was the only thing you could do - what is the alternative? get out and get punched? use your gun?
I'm sorry this happened btw. |
Film him and his license plate then get the hell outta dodge. |
Forgot above: Then call the police. |
Was he in front of your car and where you scared for your life? Massing the accelerator is self defense there |
And say what?? Some dude said something to me loudly? Not a crime. |
I'd video tape that. and make sure to get the license plate in the video.
And yes, reckless driving is a crime. I would think he's trying to threaten you too. I sat on a jury for one of these and the guys did get out of the car and punched each other. One was 65 so it was assault on the elderly I believe. |
I would have just sat there until I could go around him. Fending off a crazy with a warning you'll call 911 is much better. |
How safe you feel determines a lot. I was surrounded by three motorcycles on 95 once and called police who didn’t show up before they got back on their bikes and drove away.
A few weeks ago a certain type of woman confronted me after I stopped for a pedestrian and delayed her about five seconds. I initially looked forward completely ignoring her which really made her mad. Then I gestured through the window “I can’t hear you” and she got even angrier and stormed off. |
I doubt you merged safely and appropriately as you say for that type of reaction. |
I can understand why you’d say that but truly—I pulled into a suicide lane, checked behind me, and then pulled into the lane. It was a slow moving road, and this guy was many car lengths behind me when I pulled in. I think some people think people entering the lane in front of them is always offensive. |
Call the police. |
I’m wondering if I should have recorded it. My 4 year old was in the car with me so I was pretty freaked out and just trying to de-escalate. |
But, what if the other person is Black? Are you willing to get someone killed just because they got a little mad in traffic? |
