Another pitbull attack and death.

How very stupid to continue to keep pitbulls.

Owning 4 pit bulls is so dangerous. It’s absolutely astonishing that anyone would agree to care for someone else’s 4 pit bulls. This poor victim; what a horrific and unnecessary way to die.

I agree with you and the OP, and before anyone jumps down my throat, I am a dog lover and have had lovely experiences with pitbulls. But some dogs actually need experienced and responsible owners, some breeds should NOT be easily bred or sold because of the high risk involved. These dogs should be restricted to police work, military use, and any other work related to guarding. If you want such a dog for a family pet, then you should be required to get a license, and you should be held severely accountable for any harm that the dog causes. Like, going to jail levels of accountability.

When I was a teen, my Jack Russell Terrier was attacked by the neighbor's German Shepherd and almost died. Dogs are not toys, they are animals with teeth. We bore no ill will to the neighbor's German Shepherd, but my parents took on the neighbors for walking their dog without a leash and not training the dog properly.

I think it's stupid to have one of these dogs. I think it's borderline criminal with kids. I truly don't understand the obsession with the breed.

There's actually something narcissistic in the way pitbull owners get self-righteous about the restrictions and "prejudices" placed on the breed. They never seem to acknowledge that the deaths are devastating and scar the victims' families for lives. Oh no, let's gather together and rant about how mean and uninformed society is. Plus our pitties are sooooo sweet and look at my girl's goober eyes!

Yeah, I dare you to talk like that in front of a grieving mother whose child was torn to shreds by badly raised dogs.

I look upon pit bull owners the same way I look upon open carry people. It's pathetic. Both are using some external object to intimidate others. Pit Bulls are 2 percent of the American dog population but commit more than 70 percent of all attacks on humans. It's an incredibly dangerous breed. It should be outlawed like it is in many countries. If you own a pit bull, you are a horrible human being. Trashy. The kind of person that enjoys scaring people. Genuinely bad person

That comparison never occurred to me, but I agree it's very close to the truth. I don't think ALL pitbull owners are bad people or trashy, I know some nice people with some nice pitbulls, but the majority them are basically unwilling to take any responsibility for their trained-killer dogs. And they do have issues, maybe from childhood, around aggression and feelings of powerlessness, which might be why they want an aggressive dog.

They are indeed like the gun nuts, more than I initially thought.

Some states don’t even require a license and training to own a gun, let alone a dog.

I literally ask every family whose house my kids go to for playdates if they have a dog and what kind that's how terrified I am of these beasts.

I agree with everything you said, but just wanted to point out that the police and military and people looking for true guard dogs don't want them because they're absolute shit at performing an actual job. They don't have the intelligence, discernment, focus, or loyalty required.

You are a simple person. Pit bulls are five different dog breeds not including the many mixes so there are a lot of " pit bulls" The dogs that have attacked have been abused, neglected. Many years ago, other dog breeds were vilfied..German sheperds, Rottweilers, chows, etc.

It is the humans fault, not the dog

This myth needs to die. Look at the family in TN where their 2 5k+ XL bullies raised by them from puppyhood in a nice home with nice parents got triggered and killed the two kids nd mauled the mom. There are a ton of stories of people thoughtfully raising puppies who, as they hit the "magic age" start to get aggressive and sometimes kill.

Are these dogs the only dogs out there where genetics mean squat? They're just total blank slates and it's all in how you raise them? That's pretty remarkable. It's not true, but it would be remarkable if so.

We're you living in their home? I cannot remark on this story but to condemn five different bully breeds because a few attack seem wrong. Humans do way more damage on animals, humans and the environment than dogs do.

Does every attack need a thread?

Okay that is going overboard. My mom owns a pit bull and as much as I think she's insane for doing that and as much as I have fantasized about poisoning the dog, she does not enjoy scaring people and she is not a horrible human being. She keeps the dog at home at all times and she doesn't visit with people at her house because of the dog.

I think the dangerous gun ownership analogy works though because gun owners insist that while other guns might be unsafe, *their* guns will be used for good. Pit bull owners never think that their dog will be the one who hurts someone else.
