Sick of Feeding my Kids

Anonymous
They complain about everything and every meal is a battle. They are old enough to be past this so I'm sure it's my fault but my god I am sick of food and talking about food and hearing about food and fighting about food.

Same, girl, same. I’m sure I will miss them when they move out but I get giddy at the thought of taking care of only my food needs.

I am positive that as I lay dying one of them will lean over my deathbed and ask me if they have eaten enough to get dessert.

Actually the joke goes “dad says we’re saving the cake for the shiva.”

Just tell them to make their own food. Stop cooking for them and they can make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or whatever they want. Why spend your time on this? I mean you might need to give some direction so they don’t just eat ice cream, but other than that, let it go.

NP and I’m so with you. Mine are 14 and 12. I used to love to cook and they’ve beaten that joy right outta me. We eat an insane amount of pasta and I just don’t care.

Aw, hell no! 1. At that age they need to each be cooking one night a week. On the night 13 is cooking, 10 cleans up. On the night 10 is cooking, 13 cleans up. 2. Whoever complains about your meals has to clean up that night. 3. If they complain a second time they are excused from the table and must go to their room. They are not welcome back until dinner is over. Then they can eat alone.

They are old enough to cook their own meal if they don’t like yours. Stop arguing with them, just stop.

Around this time of year I start counting down towards sleep away camp. Not making dinner is one the best benefits.
