Smelly underarms- not sweaty- nothing works!

Anonymous
I don't have a lot or too much of liquid sweat under my arms, but the smell is awful. I'm not in menopause yet, but in my 50's and maybe hormones are changing. It started a couple of years ago and is worse this year.

I have tried every clinical and non clinical deoderant/ anti perspirant I can. Dial soap and washcloth at least once a day.

Looked into botox, but I am reading that only helps with sweat, and not the smell and that I could still smell?

Have any of you out there had this problem and solved it? I would be eternally grateful for your help- i'm worried again with temps rising.

I read somewhere online to apply glycolic acid to your armpits daily. The Ordinary sells an inexpensive bottle. Something about it breaking town trapped bacteria which is the source of the stink.

Are you washing your underarms properly? I don't mean to be rude/snarky but I know some people do not use a washcloth. You need to use a washcloth and scrub the underams. Wiping back and forth with your hand is not going to clean it well enough.

Sorry, but I had to ask; you never know. Have you tried a baking soda-based deodorant? I can't use it because it causes me skin irritation but I've heard good things about it.

Is the stink trapped in your clothes? Sometimes the smell fine until your body heat warms them up.

Get out of here with that. Most grown adults don't use a washcloth when showering, yet most people (in the US) don't seem to have a problem controlling their body odor.

OP I think this could be hormonally based, and as our hormones change so do our needs. Try Dry Idea roll-on. It works like a charm on me - I found it after several fails with other deodorants.

don't mind the question. I am scrubbing them with a washcloth and dial antibacterial soap at least once a day.

Have not done the baking soda deodorant. Thanks for the rec.

Foods you eat also change the smell of your sweat. My husband has a distinct smell if he eats garlic.

DRI antiperspirant has worked in our household. Sold at Target.

I've been seeing a lot of Lume ads on Facebook and the products are now sold at Target. Take a look at their website and read the various reviews. I've bought the deodorant and "anywhere" cream and it does seems to work. I hope you find something that works for you!

Op here, tried Lume, didn't work and broke my armpits out. I had high hopes - their marketing is good and it probably works for most.

Get a bottle of hibiclens and transfer it to a foaming handsoap container and put it in the shower. At the end of every shower, lather a handful in your pits for 30 seconds. Out of the shower, follow up with The Ordinary glycolic acid or Stridex in the red box pads. Once dry apply any deodorant. I use Dove 0% because antiperspirant buildup contributes to odor and general armpit grossness for me.

I promise with this daily routine you won't stink. I am an onion/skunk/weed BO person and I don't smell anymore.

Try putting vinegar under your arms and leave on for like 10 minutes. That usually clears it up for about a month. You need to keep washing and using deodorant of course, but it's like a reset.

Sorry OP, but the science is clear - the underarm odor that people classically associate with underarms and refer to as "body odor," is caused by bacteria coming into contact by sweat excretions from your apocrine glands. White and black people have many more of those glands than east asian people, and there is also high variation between individuals. If you are experiencing odor, it IS because of sweat from those glands.

Use Certain-Dri clinical strength applied at night before bed and wear a tight t-shirt. If that does not work, get a prescription for Drysol (it's about 50% stronger than certain-dri but causes irritation to a lot of people).

Vinegar has antibacterial properties but this and other mommy myths from the Doctors Book of Home Remedies will do very little to help you.
